Well, IT can now be said: I had a twinge of anxiety with my Krejcikova pick vs. Rachmaninoff (who is a NOISY!!!! little sprite, BTW) pick. My last two picks have been me choosing two players (Pegula before this) where I had seen them play absolute crap in doubles before making my picks. Forgetting some of the conspiracy theories that I've recently read from some of you that Krejcikova might have basically tanked the doubles or whatever (my theory is that, at least with the men's and women's doubles, winning Olympic gold, in addition to a Slam title and other tournament wins during recent months, just proved to be too much stress for the men's and women's doubles gold medalists)- I just thought, hey, crap doubles play doesn't have to mean similar results in their singles matches. At least I was correct concerning Krejcikova and Pegula. And, I can't hate on them, fan-wise, if they now continue winning- the risks we all must take for our imaginary little trophies.

It was mostly Rachmaninoff's contribution. And, we thank her. :gorgeous:

It's just that Halep, Muguruza, Svitolina are all so predictable. Azarenka is a bit more even, but to pick her you had to assume a bad day from Muguruza. Those aren't any safer to predict than a good day.

I forgot Kerber and Stevens. I can never tell if Angelique has decided to retire the last three years. Sloane, good to see you competing again!!

The day ends with 14 people getting stools at the Loser's Lounge. Update tomorrow a short while after play starts.

Picks for Saturday (day 6) are as this:
Started: 76
NO PICKS: 3
With picks: 73

Spread:
Pavlyuchenkova 32
Andreescu 22
Bencic 6

SorribesTormo 5
Pliskova 4
Raducanu 3

Barty 1

Two clear choices, and then a proper spread.
As there are 3 no picks, PLEASE CHECK YOUR NAME AND PICK, VS THE DAY'S TOPIC. As JT and I are taking turns, I may have missed somebody's picks.

Good luck to all, although in reality, we always hope for the bandwagons to crash. Less work for us (Andreescu is almost through, anyway).

I’m always happy to be eliminated from the pool early if I take Ash Barty with me

Only six players dropped out today, leaving us with 67.
Fun fact: not one single LARGEST BANDWAGON OF THE DAY has fallen off the cliff.
I can see myself handing out 15 trophies. Really.

Does that mean we're getting better at this game or have we just been lucky?

There is an enormous Kerber bandwagon forming, but yet again it just makes sense to hop on it.

But overall this is becoming very complicated now. I see 12/16 remaining players with a realistic title chance...

Sincerely, I believe that because the WTA is so even now, we are not seeing huge bandwagons every day. I believe the largest bandwagon has been a 55, which went through and was a very safe pick (Krejcikova, day 5). We are spreading our picks so much that we don't get slaughtered that easily and frequently. Still, as Suliso says, some people will be left out of medals because they have picked a high seed that will go far. Pliskova, Muguruza and Sabalenka have been picked already and, of course, if Krejcikova reaches the semis most people will be left without picks. Almost all have to really wish Mugu beats her today.

The breakdown for day 7 picks is:
From Day 6: 67
NO PICKS: 2
Start: 65

Breakdown:
Kerber 31
Sabalenka 16
Muguruza 10
Halep 3
Krejcikova 3
Fernandez 2

The pick of the day is Kerber, but we are guaranteed to lose players as we have picks from the same matches on both sides (Mugu/Krejcikova, Kerber/Fernandez).
Kind of surprising that we all are in agreement about Svitolina.

Despite the fact that we have a lot of people, this will be the last day for this topic. I will start a new one for Day 8, both to make it easier for me and because you people have done great.
Best of luck.

As always: CHECK YOUR PICK. Mistakes are not unavoidable.

I don't think that assessment is correct. Only the 3 people picking against her are sure. The rest, myself included, are only waiting to see who wins and plan to take the winner against Kerber or Fernandez if we're still alive by then.
