whether it is the balls or the court, the slow conditions are really inspiring a revival of the volley game.. it is one of the few ways to win a point! Muchova and Leylah are both showing us how to do it.. certainly a welcome development!

It seems Andreeva could not play because she didnt get a visa.. cant the all-powerful, all-knowing wta do something? at the very least, the tournament ought to be punished? why award a tournament to a country if they wont even issue visas freely to players?

Uhm, could it be that Mirra's team did not run the application properly?
It is not as if Japan is some 3rd world country, famous for not allowing people in. But I am sure they have their rules too.
And Mirra has a Russian passport. Her team should know that comes with certain caveats.

It's not clear - all the articles I found said Andreeva couldn't get a visa but didn't go into details as to why, and all the sources were online tabloid-type websites that aren't known for their fact checking, or editorial control.
