glad to see Michelsen do well.. he is not afraid to go forward... volleying is actually a good tactic on clay, you need a way to finish the point , after all.. provided you are not silly about the kind of approach you go up behind..

You need to hit a monster approach. Otherwise, the book on passing somebody on clay is well written, and widely read:
"First pass low, second pass from the popped up volley", by Bjorn Borg. Prologue by Rafael Nadal.

Isn't clay about using angles to open the court more since you can't hit through it? So maybe the approach should spin off the court more and push someone back more than it has to penetrate on a hard court?

Either way, you need to hit a monster approach. Either very angled, or very hard. Because if the other player can get to it, then the formula I said applies.

Machac def Djokovic 6-4, 0-6, 6-1

Just a note on the simple mistake issues that we see in tennis journalism, and in journalism in general. Tomas Machac's name appears to be spelt wrong in two different places on the ATP website right now. One on the scored board - MacHac - and another in the title of an article - Macahc.

2 matches in one day before the French. Not an ideal situation.

Just saw the highlights. Could have gone either way (of course, with that score) but the guy has a very nice 1H BH.
Against Goffin in 1R at RG and, if through. Zverev/Nadal.
Hey, it was a great May for him.
