Re: WTA 250 Bogota 3/31 - 4/6 2025
The weather forecast for Bogota was a prime example of why meteorology is usually seen as a joke.
So we hit the Open yesterday. It was a bit chilly and it drizzled for a little while, but a fine day of tennis.
Caught Bouzkova/Serban. A quick first set, but the second was competitive. Bouzkova's second serve is a glaring weakness, but the BH is a solid shot. To my surprise, she is fluent in Spanish (her Spanish accent betrays tells you she has trained in Spain for a long time) and she gave a very nice interview at the end.
The we caught Tig/Pareja. Pareja is an American youngster (only 16) from California, but her parents are Colombian migrants. So, obviously, the crowd embraced her and, in typical Colombian fashion, it quickly became a Davis Cup match. I guess it was only one guy and me cheering and applauding Tig, who is a veteran on her way out. Pareja won in a 2nd set TB, but needs a lot more power if she is going to make a dent in the pros.
Last match was a quick doubles between two Colombian youngsters and a Brazil/Argie team. The Brazilian woman (she is 30) showed the Colombian girls a lot of corners of the court they did not know existed.
It was fun. May think about going to the Sunday final, if Camilita does not make it.

The difference in appreciation of the speed of the ball is awesome.
If only you could get replays!

How to build up women's sports.
The semis for the tournament are being played. The #2 seed, Colombian, is playing at the moment.
Not one single open channel is showing it. You must have Direct TV.

Re: WTA 250 Bogota 3/31 - 4/6 2025
Because I am interested in the obscure, I'd like to point out the losing finalist to Ossorio Serrano, Katarzyna Kawa, made it to the main draw by winning a four-hour-and-14-minute qualifying match against Tig.
That's even longer than the famous Djokovic-Nadal match in Madrid in 2009 and is the longest I've ever heard of for a three-set match. For her to go on and win four more matches in the next six days is incredible. She saved a match point in her round-of-16 win and beat Bouzkova, the top seed, in the quarterfinals.
