Wimbledon have announced their first list of punishments for 2025 with 12 players fined, including a British star who ‘verbally abused staff’.
Henry Patten has received the biggest fine so far at this year’s Championships and has been told to pay £9,000 for his behaviour in practice.
The British player, who won last year’s Wimbledon men’s doubles title, ‘verbally abused staff’ as they attempted to cut his training session short.
But Patten has issued a statement confirming that he plans to appeal against the fine, saying he has been left ‘disappointed’ over the decision.
‘There was an incident that occurred on the 29th of June during a training session on an offsite training ground,’ Patten said. ‘The next day, I spoke to the tournament referee and tournament director regarding this incident.
‘On the 2nd of July I received a letter informing me that I had been fined and on the same day I responded appealing the decision due to inaccuracies and procedural failures in the process.

‘Despite this decision being under appeal, I am disappointed that Wimbledon thought it appropriate to disclose this fine to the media without indicating my appeal which creates an unfair and inaccurate perception of the incident.
‘As this decision is subject to appeal, I have been advised not to speak about this in any detail at this point.
‘At this stage I will merely say that I do not believe that there has been a full or proper investigation, nor has Wimbledon acted reasonably or fairly with due process.
‘I am disappointed that as the defending male doubles champion that I am having to address this matter at this point rather than concentrating on playing tennis. I will comment further once the appeal has been concluded.’
Who else has been fined at Wimbledon?
Patten, who has reached the men’s doubles quarter-finals this year alongside Finish partner Harri Heliövaara, isn’t the only punished player.
French star Adrian Mannarino has been slapped with a fine worth £4,400 for unsportsmanlike conduct in the men’s singles.
The incident occurred during Mannarino’s second-round victory over fellow Frenchman Valentin Royer on Wednesday.
Russian player Elena Pridankina, meanwhile, has been fined £3,672 for unsporting conduct too.
