I have always said that one of the worst things about sports is that, in almost all of them, the specific movements cannot be replicated in the gym. You can work out as hard as you want and as carefully as you want, but there is no real way you can replicate the impact and mechanics of a FH in the gym.
You have to go on the field and hit the actual stroke.

After such a lengthy layoff, she is still probably far away from peak tennis form.

Keeping the distances between the pros and us, I am going through that right now. My tennis elbow is getting better, but it is only getting better by going on court and hitting balls. All the off-the-court therapy means nothing if you don't go out there and play. No exercise is going to simulate the swinging motion AND the impact of the ball on your racquet (which goes straight to your arm).

I have a feeling that Iga will go on a tear now. Wimbledon win was liberating. It will be a while until she loses.

Her performance against Tauson should be a solid gauge on how dialed in she is against real competition.

Agree.
I say that a good gauge will be a meeting Vs Gauff. Sure, she has the lead on the H2H, but Gauff seemed to have turned the tables recently. If Swiatek gains again on Coco, as you say, solid candidate for the USO.

Mboko with the biggest win of her career. Her first ever top 20 win, and she is into her first wta quarter final. Gauff loses to a younger player for the second time in her career, both loses have been in Canada

Mboko will play Zhu or Bouzas Maneiro next
Victoria has been playing well here while Cori has seemed to struggle. Still I'm surprised Cori didn't win a set.

The Tennis Channel commentary about Gauff this tournament has been nauseating.

She has a serious problem with her serve and they kept talking about her mental toughness and how she would be fine and improve. Her resilience is impressive, but her mental toughness is in serious question with the continued yips on her serve that has lasted more than a year now. The fact is she beat two struggling players in Collins and Kudermetova whose better pasts made them think she had overcome tough opponents. When she ran into an actually good opponent, she won five games. Although she had chances to turn this one around like she did against Kudermetova, she could not do it because she did not get as much help.

Still, Andrea Petkovic insisted Gauff would use the loss as fuel just as she did the first-round loss to Kenin at 2022 Wimbledon. That's a big stretch. Whatever is going on in her head about her serve is no easy matter to fix, and in the short term it is more likely to affect the rest of her game than it is for her to suddenly fix the serve issues.

Mboko has much cleaner and more classic stroke production.

I agree with most of what you say, but I don't think her serve issues are totally mental. I think her grip does not allow her to control that brushing motion on her serve to make it a solid stroke.
She is a fine player. We can agree on that. But her grips are a bit wrong for some things. The FH grip is too extreme for low bounces, and her serve is what I just said.
I know, I know, I know. Iga has an extreme FH grip too, and she has done better. But she has learned to get very low for her FH with her legs, allowing her to get under the ball. Coco should go that way too, because at this stage in her career, changing a grip is asking for too much.
But she has to on the serve.
