I like that mentality.
I lost to a player that had not won in months. I barely played, it was that fast.
What excuse do I have NOT to enter another tournament? In which I will be seeded #1 and, therefore, the pressure will be on me.

That is how you build up. Not by recoiling in terror because you played one awful match.
Go out there and play again. Like Stan's arm says: fail again. Fail better.

The WTA ranking system considers the bext one result out of Wuhan, Doha and Dubai.. so if you have won Doha or Dubai (Swiatek, Paolini) why would you bother to play Wuhan?

A player could still count the results of all three tournaments in their ranking if the other two 1000 events are amongst their best 7 results for the year not counting the Grand Slams, and the other 1000 events.

I guess I am in the same boat with Jack here - I thought the rankings rolled over...not that they reset to match that of the Race to ATP finals

Maybe, just maybe, there are players out there that enjoy the silliness of hitting a ball back and forth with another person on the other side.
;)
I've heard it is quite fun.

Seriously. There is prize money to be made, there are points to gain, and you need to stay in a competitive match mindset. I truly believe that if you stop playing at a certain level you simply can't play well.
For example. It had been years since the last time I played a competitive match. I got invited to a mixed doubles a few days ago (I was in BAires) and I started just hitting and letting my partner take a lot of balls (I am a lousy doubles player). Until we were down 0-4 and I said "I have to get involved".
Maybe stuff like that happens to some players too.

They do not reset. The rankings roll over, over a period of 52 weeks. The RACE only counts the points for the year. It is just that, on week 52 of the year (the last week), the ranking and the ATP race will be calculated over the same span of 52 weeks that the race was calculated.
Or maybe I am also confused.

No, you've got it - as the year goes on the Official Rankings, and the Race start to converge, and at the beginning of the ATP Finals they are the same.

Gauff back in the top 5 Monday, pushing out Paolini. She’s also up to 4 in the Race battle, trailing Rybakina by 3 points

It's her amazing consistency. Unless I overlooked something this was only her 2nd final of the year.

Navarro is now just 108 points ahead of QZ in the race for the 7th spot.. if Rybakina drops out (as I expect) they will both be fine but otherwise...outdoing QZ at her home tournament (literally, apparently that is the region of China she is from) would be quite a feat - which is what Navarro would have to do, to make it.

(Normally, I dont care about rankings but this is to qualify for the finals, so it is a bit more significant!)

Saba is now about 200 behind Swiatek...with Swiatek sitting out both Beijing and Wuhan, it may come down to the YEC again..I suppose the YEC needs the boost...there is a distasteful whiff around it anyway. I for one intend to boycott it.

In Saudi Arabia, right?
Well, I don't think I would have been able to watch anyway but, sure, I was not going to tune it for that.

Maybe Rybakina isn't even a consideration for the YEC?

That is my guess too
