by Owendonovan Emma didn't waste this WC. She's a conundrum as a wanna be fan. I liked both her and Layla in USO final, but it's been hard liking Emma the way I like Layla ever since.

Emma hasn't given us much to react to on court, just a lot of off-court drama with coaches. She's had legitimate injuries and surgeries. She still has a lot of career ahead of her, but surely some scar tissue, too, since she has said she sometimes wishes she hadn't won the US Open (a silly thought, I hope she realizes).

by ashkor87 Just love Parry's serve, the way she bends her back..

Both are very fine players, in different ways, both are good for the game..am a fan of both. Raducanu's struggles are understandable, it is hard to settle for a coach when you haven't really had one and still done well .people need to be more understanding

by ponchi101 But she did have a coach. The one that guided her to a USO. That is the reason she is so puzzling.

An untold story. It could be many things. Maybe she or the dad never loved him as the coach and saw an opportunity to get a bigger name or finally afford someone else. Maybe it was more petty than that. I'll ask Tara Moore sometime what she has heard.

by jazzyg I think injuries were a much bigger reason for her decline than mental problems.

I see no reason she cannot become a contender again if she has an extended period of health. Always felt she was more talented than Fernandez even though most people appeared to like Fernadez more.

Maybe I am mistaken but wasn't she just working with the Tennis Association coach,? Sort of temporarily, when she won the USO?

He worked for the LTA at the time and had a nine-week trial contract with Raducanu. I’m not sure if it was through the LTA, but likely. He wanted to continue as her coach and was fired on a brief phone call with her team.

I liked her a lot but the bloom is off the rose a bit. Her arrogant comment about coaches not being able to keep up with her rubbed me the wrong way. And without much other exposure, because she has hardly played, it’s hard to offset such negative things.

Sad, she could have been a popular star for the WTA.

by ponchi101 She still carries the UK for the WTA. That is the reason she is valuable; that is a profitable market.
I was not aware of the entire story about the coach. Txs.

Exactly. She is just image. She is the last brit to win a slam. And that is enough.

by jazzyg Boulter and Pliskova have played three times on grass.

All three times Boulter has lost the first set before coming back to win in three.

I saw the last set and it was pretty good, although the match ended with five breaks of serve. Definitely nervy. Boulter broke for 4-2, then lost serve at love. Then Emma, serving at 3-4 deuce, had a brain fart and tried a backhand drop shot instead of driving it, her best shot. It was a terrible shot - a high sitter at the service line. Boulter broke. Then she lost serve again and Emma lost serve again and it was over. The bail-outbackhand at 3-4 was just lack of match play, I think. Toughness in tight moments down the stretch.

Tough loss but encouraging result overall. Nice to see Boulter playing well.

I'm surprised Boulter is 27! Thought she was a lot younger.

by mick1303 Last time Brits won simultaneously (the same week) on both tours was in 1975 ))

by mick1303 I have also 1976 hits in my database, but Sutton and Felixstowe no longer appear as part of ATP main tour...

by ponchi101 That is a stretch. Almost 40 years.
