The Committee, while adhering as closely as possible to the order of play given, is unable to guarantee that it will be maintained in its entirety.
This may result in matches being moved from one court to another. DENISE PARNELL - REFEREE

by Owendonovan Go Borna!

by ashkor87 Match of the day- Alexandrova vs Raducanu...Alexandrova is one of my faves but Raducanu is a player of a higher class...

Pliskova - Shnaider could be interesting too..though I expect Pliskova will win...
Muchova - badosa...could tell us a lot about whether Muchova is really back yet ..

by ashkor87 I think Swiatek has decided to take W lightly and focus on Olympics (which she is almost certain to win)..to a Pole, Olympics means a lot, more than to, say, an American..coming in to Wimbledon without a single grass court match shows her intent...

by Owendonovan This American thinks there's no higher achievement in sports than the Olympics.

Yes, but you are American..do you know how non-Americans see it? I remember Dementieva, when she won the Olympic gold, saying the ordinary Russian recognizes her in the street, more than they recognize the grand slam champions..
I think the US has so many Olympic Champions that any one of them doesn't stand out...a country like Poland doesn't ...

by ponchi101 In tennis there are 4 clear achievements higher than the Olympics. I say the YEC's are also higher.
For many players, there are local tournaments that also rank higher (Rome for the Italians, Buenos Aires for the Argentinians, Santiago for the Chileans, etc).

I think it really depends on the individual. Winning Wimbledon would be a crowning achievement for a tennis player, but for many, the opportunity to be an Olympian and compete in the Olympics is also a dream come true.

by texasniteowl ESPN just said Alexandrova has withdrawn, so Raducanu gets a lucky loser.

edit...R. Zarazua (MEX) against Raducanu

by JTContinental Renata Zarazua is Raducanu's new opponent

by Fastbackss Looks like first completed set of the tournament, a bagel, was served by Zhu to Begu

by skatingfan And Gracheva wins the race to be the first into the second round.

Tsurenko is the first to claim a victim in the Survivor Pool.

by JTContinental Pam Shriver reporting that Sabalenka only practiced for 15 minutes serving at half speed and walked off the court shaking her head.

by JTContinental Sabalenka has withdrawn, replaced by Erika Andreeva

by skatingfan Dimitrov the first in the men's draw to reach the 2nd round.

by skatingfan Shapovalov putting out Jarry in routine fashion.

This is a bummer for Aryna.

(It also messes up the draw, which is what many were afraid of if Novak withdrew late.)

(And it nullifies the bet I had made on Bektas)

by ponchi101 So Raducanu dodges bullet #1. Zarazua will be a 45 minute match.

by ponchi101 And Azarenka out too. I really can't remember a grass season in which so many players went down to injuries.

by Suliso Zheng is really struggling recently. Another R1 exit...

by New England Nitemare Pablo Carrreno Busta pulled out as well. He was to play Talon Griekspoor in Round 1

by ti-amie Why was the roof closed on Court 1 while play continued on outside courts?

I would assume to be sure that the Sinner match would get completed, if darkness had become a factor.

Oh of course.

Mystifying .... doesn't Jarry have a big serve?

by ponchi101 A big everything, including a big frame. His movement on grass is difficult.

by meganfernandez Who had Erika Andreeva going farther than Mirra in this tournament? Big win from the younger Fruhvitrova over the younger Andreeva.

Well probably no one, as Erika had lost last week, and only got into the draw this morning.

Not literally… Although one could have gamed it out knowing Erika was in qualifying.

by jazzyg In the single most obscure men's match of the day, Cazaux held serve all 27 times and still came within two points of losing to Bergs. After winning the first two sets easily, he lost the next two in tiebreaks and the fifth went to a tiebreak as well, where Cazaux jumped out to a 7-0 lead, blew that advantage to make it 8-8 (cue Megan complaining about the unnecessary extended tiebreaks) and then won the final two points to hold on.

Wild, wacky stuff, none of which would have even been shown on the five DirecTV Wimbledon channels that are no more, ruining my main source of Wimbledon viewing from the past 15 years or so.

haha! I do think the extended TB is silly. Three more points, whoopie. Not worth the confusion. But what a comeback from Bergs. Heartbreaking to lose it after the improbably comeback!
