I still have TAT 1.0 merch that said "I survived the TAT Suicide Pool."Fastbackss wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 1:32 pm

Meanwhile, Minnen was up a set and 5-2 on Aiava when I finally fell asleep for good. Woke up to find out she lost five straight games to lose the set, recovered to go up 5-3 in the third set, held two match points at 5-4 and ended up losing in a match tiebreak.
I'll take the lashing I deserve for picking a player in an obscure match in the first round, but it was brutal to check the scores to confirm Minnen's easy win and find out she lost.

I feel like the people who picked Vondrousova should by default get the LL they place in the draw. I was more so picking Fett to lose, which she did, but do the LL Dart. I know I’m eliminated, blah blah blah, but I’m continuing on like I’m still alive.

I mentioned Bondarenko in the women’s day 3 thread before I saw this. I struggled to remember the name. Good recall!Irena2 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 4:30 pmWas there merch for "I've been Bondarenko'ed?"mmmm8 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 2:32 pmI still have TAT 1.0 merch that said "I survived the TAT Suicide Pool."Fastbackss wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 1:32 pm

I stayed away once I read Ben's piece about her buying vintage outfits - I knew she had the winds of fate behind her and would thus be a dangerous pickjazzyg wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 3:46 pm Meanwhile, Minnen was up a set and 5-2 on Aiava when I finally fell asleep for good. It is a longstanding rule that players do not automatically get the LL when their pick withdraws before their match. It is the responsibility of the player to make sure their pick is actually taking the court.mcbride10s wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 5:04 pm I feel like the people who picked Vondrousova should by default get the LL they place in the draw. Re: AOSP25 Women's Picks and Results Thread
A longstanding rule doesn’t make it a good rule. Vondrousova withdrew “hours before” her match, meaning play likely started for the day and it would have been too late to make a new pick. Getting the LL makes sense. But, not my pool, not my rules, I’m out, fair and square, just seems no harm no foul to get the LL instead of an arbitrary elimination from a for fun suicide pool. If it was the 3rd round or something and your player withdrew then tough luck, but that isn’t the case here. Oh well.

Not actual merch, but perhaps you remember a certain one-off "I got BondarenKO'd in the quarter final of a major" t-shirt?

I do sympathize as it sucks to go out that way, but it's a good rule, and there are reasons that it is in place.mcbride10s wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 10:00 pm A longstanding rule doesn’t make it a good rule. 1)It creates an administrative nightmare on the back end for volunteers who are doing this in their spare time. For example, sure Vondrousova withdrew hours before the tournament, but it was late night/early morning on a weekend in my time zone, and I'm not sitting a my computer all day constantly checking the draw looking for withdrawals, nor should I have to. The 15 players eliminated also did not do this.
2)You didn't pick the LL, so it creates an environment that is unfair to the other players who made a pick.
