TIL that there is a younger sister version of Mpetshi Perricard. I missed that she played the Australian Open Juniors, and also French Open Women's qualifying.

by ashkor87 Woke up a bit in the second set

by ashkor87 The 'good Coco' appeared in time!

by JTContinental Boisson is ripped and has a monster forehand, but so far not much else

by Oploskoffie Griekspoor had a great start, then got an abdominal injury and within an hour that was that... :(

by ponchi101 The SP's really bring the worst in you.
I want Draper to win the whole thing, especially to beat Sinner. But he is today's SP bandwagon.
The conflict of wishes is too much.

by ponchi101 The RG site has an "Excitement rating" meter. It is currently showing a 64% excitement measurement for the Djokovic - Norrie match.
Djokovic is winning 6-2 3-2, strolling down the park.
How do they measure that?

Cheer for the bandwagon to crash tomorrow then!

by texasniteowl Solid win for Keys. Nice she had a straightforward win after the Kenin match. Not sure what I think of her chances against Gauff next though.

Keys chances against ANYBODY are always good. She has all the weapons needed. If she goes FH to FH I say she can break down Coco. And if Coco gives her the usual ration of DF´s, Maddie has more than enough chances.
Of course, she can also give Coco 127 unforced errors to keep her in the match. That match is not a given for either player.

by ponchi101 On the night session issues.
Today, of the 4 matches on the women's side, only one went over 1:45. And it was the one that was the least promising: Pegula-Boisson, which on paper was supposed to be the easy match.
The other three were fine matches, but nothing special. As I expect that the Sinner-Rublev match will be. Most likely a routine 3 setter.
You will always find one match that was super compelling and great and that "should have been" the night match; it is always easy to see which one after they have been played. But if you had picked the WTA match today, you had 75% chance of picking one match that did not reach 1:45 minutes.
I still say that the WTA should have some matches, but I say another option has not been explored: how about starting a bit earlier, and having TWO women's matches? Maybe one doubles to start, then a singles. Or yes, two singles. Give the spectators a guarantee that they will get to see at least 4 sets.

by mick1303 What is happening with Draper? Is he injured? Or Bublik suddenly plays out of his mind?

mick1303 wrote: Mon Jun 02, 2025 4:51 pm What is happening with Draper? Is he injured? Or Bublik suddenly plays out of his mind?
Bublik has hit at least 31 drop shots that have given him the point. Several of them for clean winners.
He is playing tennis that would be the envy of Laconte or Kyrgios. With the difference that it is working to perfection.

by mick1303 I'm not sure that he has a moxy to close it out though.

by mick1303 Turns out he does!!!

Sometimes a SP bandwagon weight just drags players down :D

by jazzyg Bublik had 68 winners to 39 unforced errors. Pretty special performance. I thought Draper would win, but the way Bublik tore apart de Minaur in the final three sets of a match I did not see earlier in the tournament gave me pause.

Draper had an insane get at 15-0 love with Bublik serving for the match. It surprised Bublik so much he whiffed on the half-volley and nearly got himself into trouble thinking about not being up 30-0 on the next few points.

by mmmm8 Watching Sinner drubbing Rublev and Safin couldn't look more bored (exactly how I would have predicted he would).

Safin strikes me as a stoner.

by ti-amie I saw the first set of Pegula vs Boisson. Pegula didn't really have to do much and by the end of the set Boisson wasn't moving her feet at all, her head was down and her shoulders were slumped. She was the picture of utter defeat. I dozed off and when I woke up again I saw Boisson's blue top and asked myself "why is this match still going on?" imagine my surprise to see Boisson not only won the second set but had Pegula fighting for her life to stay in the match! She was a completely different player from the one I saw in the first set. there was one point where she enticed Pegula up to the net and off balance managed a lob that landed in. She was playing smart tennis and while Pegula fought Boisson was not going to be denied.

In Pegula's defense it's hard to prep for someone you've never seen or heard of before but one would think your coach would've at least sat in on one of her matches to see how she got to face you and give you some idea of what to do against her.

That said this was a bad loss for Pegula and I'm sure she knows it.

Boisson will face media darling Mirra Andreeva next.

by ashkor87 That was a masterclass by Bublik in use of drop-shots to pull his opponent out of position..Draper reached many of them but Bublik was ready for the next one .lots to learn for all young players

by ashkor87 Pegula showed us yet again that her game is ineffective on courts that doen help her.. she will be much better on grass and fast hard courts.. coming up next. Too many people were foole dby her Charleston win, forgetting that green clay is closer to a hard court than to clay.

Meanwhile, Sinner is looking like a real threat- probabilities need to be revised..
Sinner 45%
Alcaraz 50%
Djokovic 4%
Zverev %

by ponchi101 Who has Sinner played that merits revision? If he crushed Djokovic (or Zverev, which he has in the past), sure.
But the odds at the beginning of the tournament have not changed much. He has done what was expected.

by ashkor87 Sinner has played very well..Alcaraz has played maybe 5% below my expectations...do..
