Closest is probably JMac. Lost 2nd round at RG and then 3 weeks later was in the semis of W.

Found an answer - Monica Seles 1989 RG. She hadn't even been in qualifying before.

It's just one loss in a slam QF, and she did win IW, so don't think this changes too much. Not sure why you need the talk to stop but don't see it happening!

You misunderstood the question. It was about debuting in any slam, not this particular slam. Before winning RG 2004 Nadal lost in Wimbledon 2003, US Open 2003 and AO 2004.

I was guilty of saying, a couple of years ago, that Mirra was stalling. She was like 16.
She is still only 18, and she made the QF's of a slam. I don't see how this changes her prospects that much. She is still moving up, has the strokes, and has the coach.
One bad loss does not turn you into a pumpkin immediately.

Capriati is a valid answer, Nadal is not. I suspect no man has done it in the open era.

Conchita has done wonders for her but she reverted to her bratty, bad decision making self for this match. I think she needs to improve her fitness level too.

Actually it did happen quite recently. I'm sure everybody remembers this player. We just forgot that it was his first slam. Aslan Karatzev. But probably was playing quallies a lot prior to his 2021 semis run in Australia.

I am not sure the people ripping Pegula and Andreeva are actually watching Boisson play. She has serious game and was straight up the better player on clay in Paris against Pegula. Today she made an incredible get while down set point in the tiebreak. Otherwise she probably would have lost the match. Andreeva definitely hurt herself with her attitude, but Boisson caused her to have that attitude.
