by ti-amie There's a bit of controversy about the WTA holding a 500 event with no top ten players entered. Most of the blame is going to the Mixed Doubles Exhibition the seeds are scheduled to play in. I'm not saying that this event would've had a top five player but Pegula among others has played here in the past.

Maybe she does not need the money?

Diana Gets It Done

The #3 seed starts slow but builds a nice head of steam in the 2nd set against Kamilla Rakhimova, winning, 7-6³, 6-1.

Shnaider, who lost to Elise Mertens in the opening round here last year, moves on to face... Elise Mertens in the quarterfinals! 😯

by ashkor87 Parks beat Navarro in 3 - good progress!

by ashkor87 pleased with the other 2 results as well - Alexandrova and Noskova both won.

by ashkor87 Navarro should have known better than to play here...didn't anybody tell her the court is slow..doesn't suit her game..she doesn't have the power..Alycia does..for once, somebody is advising her correctly. Does she even have a coach yet?

by ashkor87 I dont expect AP to beat Shnaider..who is a very powerful player too .on a slow court, very few can hope to.

by ti-amie I rooted for Paolini for a couple of years.

I watch An Li matches.

I'm starting to pay attention to Ito Aoi.

Root for who you want. :)

yes, as expected, but I watched a bit of the match on Youtube - impressed with the fact that AP is finally learning to construct points, not just hit out. Am pleased, she is progressing.

So, players should now only play in tournaments where the conditions suit them? And, who says Navarro believes that she could not win here?
I mean, love the girl, but she is spinning and she needed to get some points because once the USO is over, she is going to lose a lot of points from her result last year. She needed some time on court after a bad showing in Canada and Cincy (I don't remember if she played Montreal).
She got some practice. I hope she will do well at the USO, but I doubt it.

by ashkor87 Losing to Alycia Parks will only shake her confidence...

by ashkor87 Shnaider is now 5-0 in WTA finals, it seems.. amazing! She will go out early at the USO, of course, as all Monterrey champions do..

The Monterrey title gets her 2025 back on track - she had fallen outside the top 20 when she poised to make top 10 a few months ago.
