by ashkor87 From last year's video, court looks slow to medium.. BHM did well by coming to the net and finishing the point.. takes a good volleyer to win this event, or lots of power..a number of women could win it, of course, but the ones I would NOT bet on are Raducanu, Kenin, Kasatkina..
would go short on them if this were a market...Shnaider won Monterrey on a similar court, I would bet on her if I had to.

by ashkor87 nice to see that Krejcikova and Siniakova are playing together again..

by ashkor87 Raducanu vs Krejcikova next.. both major champions.. should be a good one, though I think the court is far too slow for Raducanu.. she struggled even against Cristian.. Krejcikova will go to the net and put way the volleys, which is the only one way someone with less power than Sabalenka/Swiatek/Anisimova can win here...

by ashkor87 Meditating on versatility - the ability to win on all kinds of surfaces -Swiatek certainly has it.. fast/slow/high bounce/low bounce, she manages them all. So does Alexandrova, to a lesser extent.. Gauff has shown the same but she is busy fixing her mechanics for now..Sabalenka also seems pretty good on all surfaces. There are more like that these days, which is a good thing.

by ponchi101 Totally disagree. They are all slow courts, with the same speed and bounce. It makes it less challenging.
This is not Borg winning RG-W three years in a row, going from very slow, high uneven bounces on clay to very fast, low uneven bounces on grass.
A little difference would make it more competitive.
It's like car racing: Nascar is just ovals, the same thing over and other. Other categories use circuits, all different. Makes it more interesting.

huh? USO, Cincinnati, Korea all same to you?

by ashkor87 Raducanu getting a lot of flak for playing here instead of BJK cup.. I am ambivalent on this - her team didnt actually need her, so what is the problem? And she is trying to garner points to get seeded at the AO.. everybody does that. Of course, patriotism requires here to play for her country, but who is patriotic these days? I do think conditions didnt suit her here, just as I said Navarro should have known better than to go to Monterrey, but that is only my opinion, and she might have proved me wrong.

Yes. The differences are trivial.

Okkkkkkkk !

by Owendonovan Is Iga trying for year end no. 1?

by ashkor87 Iga won as expected but good show by Alexandrova, won the first set 6-1

by ashkor87 Alexandrova played better, had more winners, fewer UFEs, higher first serve percentage, won more points, than Swiatek.. and lost.! that is Swiatek for you!

by ponchi101 That's this sport for you. It happens with enough frequency.
Remember the 2019 Wimby final. Roger did everything better. Except play 3 good tie breaks.
The most difficult sport in the world. I say.

by ptmcmahon Is it the most difficult though? I'm sure fans / players of almost every sport will tell you why there's is the most difficult.

Well maybe not baseball players :D

by Owendonovan Gymnast here, no elite gymnastics routine is competitive without a chance to die from making a mistake in it.

by ponchi101 And then you get a score given by judges.
In tennis, nobody is judging you. If the score is love and love, you know where you stand.
