Max Purcell accepts 18-month Tennis Anti-Doping Programme suspension
Australian player admitted to receiving two intravenous infusions over 100mL limit

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) today confirms that Australian tennis player Max Purcell has accepted a suspension of 18 months under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP).

27-year-old Purcell, who reached a career-high world doubles ranking of 8 in September 2024, admitted to breaching Article 2.2 of the TADP (use of a Prohibited Method) by receiving intravenous infusions of over 500mL on 16 and 20 December 2023. The limit under the World Anti-Doping Code and TADP is 100mL in a 12-hour period.

The ITIA sent the player a notice of a potential Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) on 12 December 2024, and on the same day the player requested to enter into a voluntary provisional suspension, which came into effect immediately.

Following a full investigation by the ITIA, which included evidence gathering and interviews with the player, Purcell admitted to the breaches. The player’s full co-operation and information sharing with the ITIA allowed for a 25% reduction in sanction.

Time served under the voluntary provisional suspension is credited against the period of ineligibility. As such, Purcell’s suspension will end on 11 June 2026. The player will also forfeit results and prize money from the date of their first ADRV (16 December 2023) to their first subsequent negative doping control sample, which was provided on 3 February 2024.

ITIA CEO Karen Moorhouse commented: “This case does not involve a player testing positive for a prohibited substance but demonstrates that the anti-doping rules are broader than that. It also shows that the ITIA considers intelligence from a range of sources with the overriding aim to protect everyone covered by the tennis anti-doping rules, and ensure a level playing field for all."

During the period of ineligibility, Purcell is prohibited from playing in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authorised or sanctioned by the members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any national association.

The ITIA is an independent body established by its tennis members to promote, encourage, enhance, and safeguard the integrity of their professional tennis events.

I'll usually watch an Iga match, have seen some on-court interviews, but honestly didn't have too much of any kind of insight into Iga the person. This has added quite a bit of appreciation. I have no opinion on her work(ing) with Daria, but really like how she pulls back the curtain on the psychological mechanics of things a bit as they are for her.

Agreed! And, after a few days, I've really come to like how the rest of the page becomes blurred when a pull down menu is used so as to keep things calm and focussed. Now if only they can get Elise Mertens in front of a camera so she's not the only one in the top-50 without an updated profile picture

Raducanu Reportedly Loses Lucrative Sponsorship Deal Due To Financial Demands

Emma Raducanu has suffered a financial loss after Vodafone reportedly decided to end a lucrative partnership with the British player.

There have been reports about sponsors considering ending their deals with Raducanu because of her results since stunningly winning the 2021 US Open as an 18-year-old qualifier without dropping a set.

That incredible success led to some of the world's most significant brands wanting to partner with Raducanu, including Porsche, Nike, Evian, and Vodafone. Those collaborations earned Raducanu millions of pounds.
The 22-year-old's deal with Vodafone was worth an estimated £3 million per year. Even if Raducanu had to do some work for the telecommunications company in return, that would still be an incredible sum.
However, Daily Mail's sources have said Raducanu demanded more money, and Vodafone decided not to renew the deal. It is unknown how much money the former Grand Slam champion wanted.

Although it cannot be proven for sure, Raducanu's results in the last few years might have influenced Vodafone's decision. Turning down the player's money demands may have been more difficult if she had secured more major titles since.

Instead, Raducanu has not won any WTA tournaments since her US Open success. Various factors have contributed to her challenges on the court over the last three and a half years.

Raducanu was not helped by sections of the media, especially in her home country, placing unrealistic expectations on her shoulders. She needed some time to adjust to the daily grind of the WTA circuit after rising so quickly.

The young star has also been plagued by injury issues. She missed nine months in 2023 because of severe wrist and ankle problems, but she finally returned at the start of the 2024 season.

Although Raducanu can be sympathized with due to how tough being in the spotlight is, sponsors will always act based on what is best for their bottom line, meaning they have undoubtedly been following her results.

Porsche had given Raducanu one of its cars, but she had it reportedly taken away in October. Although the brand said the gesture was never meant to be permanent, there were strong rumors about the move being due to Raducanu's results.

The overall results pattern of the past few years might make some sponsors tempted to walk away from deals with Raducanu, but she showed auspicious signs at the 2025 Miami Open, reaching the quarterfinal.
Her run to that stage included victories against 2025 Qatar Open champion Amanda Anisimova and Emma Navarro. Raducanu lost a thrilling quarterfinal in three sets to the eventual runner-up Jessica Pegula.
That terrific showing in Miami felt important after a tough previous few months for Raducanu. She was forced to end her partnership with coach Nick Cavaday after the 2025 Australian Open because of his health issues and desire to spend more time at home.

Raducanu also dealt with a scary stalking incident during the Middle Eastern swing. She was left in tears and hid behind the umpire's chair during a match against Karolina Muchova at the 2025 Dubai Championships when a man who had followed her at two previous tournaments appeared in the crowd.

Fact is, Raducanu's market value has nothing much to do with how many titles she has won lately. The young people who buy the products she endorses, dont even know what tournament is on at any given time. She has the personality and name recognition, that is it.
