It is not Novak's ability to hit the ball. He will keep that a bit longer.
What brings every player back to earth are his/her legs. Eventually, every extra set you play takes twice as long to recover, in an exponential way. The match form which you would recover in just one afternoon now haunts you for two days.

Just noticed that Newport is no longer on the calendar. Replaced by another cookie-cutter HC event - Los Cabos. It is a bummer - another hit for a grass court tennis. Do you think we lost Newport forever? Did it went bankrupt?

Los Cabos isn't new - it was held last year - Newport, and Atlanta were dropped to allow space for Canada, and Cincinnati to expand to 12 days each. There is a Newport event going on right now. It's a challenger event now, and includes both an ATP, and a WTA event for the first time.

tbh it's been a challenger event masquerading as a tour event for many years.

As with many of the other "I somehow ingested the wrong thing" cases, I'm fascinated by certain details. In this case, it is how this can go from an independent tribunal (which was comprised of... what kind of experts in these matters??) clearing her to "just add science" to the process and she is, once again, banned.

Exactly. It must be maddening for her and any player going through the process.
I interviewed her and wrote a long story a couple years ago. She lives in Indianapolis now. She spent about $250k to fight this. Hard to believe she would do that if she wasn’t innocent. Judy Murray thinks she is innocent. She may well be. Contaminated meat is a real thing in Colombia. Is it odd that she would be caught using that same substance that is known to cause false positives in the country where she was tested?
It could also be a bit personal. The ITIA is based in London next to the national training center. She was contacted by the ITIA during her suspension with a warning that was totally out of line. They thought they spotted her training there, which isn’t allowed during a suspension. But it wasn’t her. It was Claire Lu.
Anyway, this sucks for her. Career-ending.

Too bad she didn't have 5 grand slam titles in hand when committing her doping offense.

Exactly.
Either everybody gets decapitated at the slightest hint, or everybody gets one mulligan.

A whole lot of, "WTF are they even talking about?" in her suspension. The WHOLE process needs to be ripped apart and put back together in clear, fair way. If it's money you're after, just join the "Enhanced Games".

ITF PRESS RELEASE
Wednesday 23 July
New classification tiers for electronic line calling systems create access to technology at more levels of tennis
Electronic line calling (ELC) systems in tennis can now be classified as either Gold, Silver or Bronze under new evaluation procedures announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) today.
Until now, there has been one level of classification which applied to systems intended for use at elite level events. The three-tiered system creates access to the technology at a broader range of levels.
Gold systems are intended for use at elite international-level competitions, such as Grand Slams, WTA and ATP Tours, Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge and Davis Cup.
Silver systems are intended for use at second tier international-level competitions, such as the ITF World Tennis Tour, and Bronze systems are aimed at national-level competitions.
The changes have been introduced following collaboration between the international tennis governing bodies (four Grand Slams, ATP, WTA and ITF).
Systems that meet the relevant standards are awarded classification at the appropriate level and are eligible to be used in events sanctioned by the international governing bodies.
The principles by which systems are assessed – accuracy, reliability, suitability and practicality – are the same at all levels. The new procedures unify the international governing bodies’ approach to the evaluation and ongoing monitoring of ELC systems.
Wider, more collaborative testing and sharing of results will ensure systems’ accountability and high standards of ELC delivery across the whole tennis calendar.
Stuart Miller, ITF Senior Executive Director, Integrity & Legal, said: “These procedures recognise the growing demand from both players and tournaments for ELC systems, the increasing number of ELC vendors available to provide systems, particularly at the lower levels of the tennis pyramid and our desire to ensure that technology meets the highest possible standards. The new procedures aim to ensure that we maintain those standards in the evaluation and ongoing use of ELC systems across all levels of tennis. We are grateful for the collaboration with the other international governing bodies of tennis throughout this process.”
Further information on the ELC Evaluation procedures can be found here.
