Me neither, but perhaps a chance of being a well positioned manufacturing hub? They have the required people resources even if not well educated.
The only material resource I suppose is tourist atracting beaches.

Re: Random, Random 2.0
Actually that's another interesting question to ponder about. Which countries other than the obvious (China and India) will gain (= get closer than today) most relative to US standard on each continent in the next 20-30 years?
I would propose Vietnam and Indonesia in Asia, Poland in Europe, Morocco in Africa and Chile in South and Central America. Although the last two is more of a guess...

Re: Random, Random 2.0
Uruguay is slowly gaining. Small population, a stable economy (not booming, stable) and well positioned for funding to come in.
I remember when I moved to Colombia. I was talking to Drop Shot and he mentioned something that stuck in my mind ever since: changing countries within S. America is like changing cabins in the Titanic.
Not. Gonna. Work.
We will always be behind the European standards, by about 50-60 years. My fear is that the gap will widen, due to technology. You guys will be manufacturing robots, we will still be unable to design from scratch a smoothie blender.

Not like he's completely wrong, but one could do a lot worse than the average in the neighborhood. See Venezuela...

For some reason this creeps me out...

We have a few in our garden.. it is great fun to watch them blooming, in a few minutes - so that cancels out the sad part..

Very pretty animal.
I still would not have stayed close to it.
