McMahon: Okay

The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers.

That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.

LA authorities are able to access law enforcement assistance at a moment’s notice. We are in close coordination with the city and county, and there is currently no unmet need.

The Guard has been admirably serving LA throughout recovery.

This is the wrong mission and will erode public trust.

Someone is going to get shot. I don't think blazing around with flags from Mexico is the right message. This will get much worse before it gets better.

Fake Images and Conspiracy Theories Swirl Around L.A. Protests
Disinformation spreading on social media platforms has stoked an already tense situation.

Misleading photographs, videos and text have spread widely on social media as protests against immigrant raids have unfolded in Los Angeles, rehashing old conspiracy theories and expressing support for President Trump’s actions.

The flood of falsehoods online appeared intended to stoke outrage toward immigrants and political leaders, principally Democrats.

They also added to the confusion over what exactly was happening on the streets, which was portrayed in digital and social media through starkly divergent ideological lenses. Many posts created the false impression that the entire city was engulfed in violence, when the clashes were limited to only a small part.

There were numerous scenes of protesters throwing rocks or other objects at law enforcement officers and setting cars ablaze, including a number of self-driving Waymo taxis. At the same time, false images spread to revive old conspiracies that the protests were a planned provocation, not a spontaneous response to the immigration raids.

The confrontation escalated on Monday as new protests occurred and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced — on X — that he was mobilizing 700 Marines from a base near Los Angeles to guard federal buildings. They are expected to join 2,000 members of the California National Guard whom Mr. Trump ordered deployed without the authorization of the state’s governor, Gavin Newsom, who normally has command of the troops.

The latest deployments prompted a new wave of misleading images to spread — some purporting to show Marines and the military service’s weapons in action. One was a still from “Blue Thunder,” a 1983 action-thriller about a conspiracy to deprive residents of Los Angeles of their civil rights. It features a climatic dogfight over the city’s downtown.

At least 60 people were arrested in downtown San Francisco as police officers clashed with protesters who had been demonstrating to support the protests against immigration raids in L.A.
Journalists Injured: In one episode in downtown Los Angeles, an Australian television journalist was struck when an officer fired a nonlethal projectile while she was on the air.
Law Enforcement: Local agencies have tried to make clear that they are not involved in civil immigration enforcement, but that when protests turn violent, they will intervene.
The Mexican Flag: Latin American flags have emerged as protest emblems. Trump officials have cast demonstrators waving it as insurrectionists, but for many protesters who are Mexican American, the flag represents pride in their heritage.
Darren L. Linvill, a researcher at Clemson University’s Media Forensics Hub, said conservatives online were “building up the riots in a performative way” to help bolster Mr. Trump’s claims that Los Angeles had been taken over by “violent, insurrectionist mobs.”

Dr. Linvill said the posts were also “a bit self-fulfilling.” “As they direct attention to it,” he said, “more protesters will show up.”

They are not even saying it will be paid in Bitcoin. It will be paid on some newly minted invention (pun intended).

Senator Padilla assaulted by Noem's security.

Here’s the latest.

A U.S. senator from California was forced to the floor, handcuffed and removed by federal agents after interrupting a news conference by the homeland security secretary on Thursday in Los Angeles. It was the latest sign of rising political tensions as the authorities across the country geared up for more demonstrations and California and the Trump administration faced off in a hearing in federal court.

Democratic politicians reacted with outrage to the video of the treatment of Senator Alex Padilla, a Democrat. But the Trump administration and some Republican leaders blamed Mr. Padilla, saying he had lunged at Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and ignored officers’ orders to back away. Mike Johnson, the House speaker, suggested that Mr. Padilla should be punished by the Senate.

The image of a senator being shoved out of the news conference — even as he identified himself — and handcuffed in a hallway reflected how the volatile responses to President Trump’s immigration crackdown had spread from the streets to the halls of power. It came as troops prepared to mobilize in several states, and as protests showed no sign of slowing down.

Ms. Noem said she spoke with Mr. Padilla after the news conference, adding that his attempt to intervene “wasn’t appropriate.” Outraged Democrats took to the Senate floor to protest Senator Padilla’s treatment and called on Republicans to join them. “This is the stuff of dictatorship,” said Senator Brian Schatz, Democrat of Hawaii.

Do not sue Noem or the DHS. Sue the actual policemen/goons for abuse of force. Go after the small guys that are doing these performances, to see if the FBI, ICE, DHS or any other officers will start seeing that this may land them in jail.
For which there is a 1% possibility.
