Banned Yankees fan on Mookie Betts interference: 'I might as well just f***ng rip the thing out'
'Once you put your hand on the glove you’re getting booted no matter what'

After a day to reflect on his actions — which got himself and a friend kicked out of Yankee Stadium and turned into pariahs on the Internet – one might have thought Austin Capobianco would’ve been more contrite.

Instead, the Yankees fan who ripped a ball out of the glove of L.A. Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts defended his actions in boisterous fashion some might got typical of New York.

During an interview with Barstool Sports on Wednesday night, Capobianco opened up about his moment of infamy, saying it was years in the making.

He said that he and a friend, who grew up in Connecticut and now lives in Nashville, went to the game and that they had always had a pact to interfere with an opponent if the opportunity arose in a big moment.

Capobianco has had season tickets for the seats in the front row down the right-field line since 2011, he said, adding he has attended every home playoff game since then.

“We talked about it. If we’re on the field, we’re D-ing up our fans from being stupid and causing interference that (costs the Yankees an out when they’re in the field),” Capobianco told Barstool Rundown.

“In that situation, ideally we would’ve hit the ball while it was in the air — we’re not reaching into the field of play. We would have if it came down to that, but that ball was on the wall.

“It was in my mouth, basically, and I go, ‘I can’t not do something right now.’”

He explained his mostly backwards logic of trying to tear the ball out of Betts’ mitt as the outfielder attempted to make the catch in foul territory.

“It was pretty secure. Once you put your hand on the glove you’re getting booted no matter what. So I might as well just f***ng rip the thing out,” Capobianco said.

The fan also had a laugh about the situation and the video of the incident.

“The best was when (my friend) just grabbed the arm. It was f***ing hilarious in the video,” he said.

Eventually, Capobianco acknowledged that his friend “crossed the line” by grabbing Betts’ arm.

He also said that he was familiar with stadium security because “peasants” sitting behind him have frequently complained about him standing up in front of them during games in the past.

After the pair were ejected from the game, Capobianco said that the two went to a nearby bar and spent the rest of the night “slamming drinks.”

The Yankees also banned the two fans for Game 5 and issued a statement denouncing their actions.

Don´t know what to say. On the one hand, it is kind of refreshing that somebody is not apologizing at the very first incident.
On the other: what a jerk.
Happy that the Yankees lost. But can't be happy that the Dodgers won.

Holy smokes

The Dodgers foundation is auctioning the ball Aaron Judge clanked off his glove in the 5th inning of Game 5 of the World Series for charity. Auction ends in two hours. Current high bid is $25,000: dodgers.auctions.mlb.com/iSynApp/auct...

Freddie Freeman walked it off for Dodgers in the 18th to take a 2-1 World Series lead.

That came at 2:53am Eastern time.

I dropped Baseball a long time ago; I was really turned off after the doping era and the Alex Rodriguez' bull :poop:
But this must have been an incredible game. Too bad I was watching the boring Chiefs Vs Commanders.

Yes, it was high drama. There were many innings (especially around innings 9-12) where they had lots of people on base, and lots of chances but no one cashed in.

Then as it got late teams were onto their "last" relivers and a couple of them pitched a long time - one Blue Jay pitched 4.2 shutout innings.

I only wished it last 2-3 more innings to see what they were going to do next. People were saying the Dodgers were going to possibly put in a position player to pitch. They also had their game 2 starter who just pitched a complete game warming up. Meanwhile jays started warming up their game 4 starter in case too.

I hope the Blue Jays pull this off. I've never cared much about baseball, but my brother was here for about a week to visit, and he insisted on watching baseball on MY TV while he was here. Which turned out fine because he got me hooked on the Blue Jays. Given all that has happened geopolitically in the past few months, it would be poetic justice if the Canadians forced the United States to eat this loss--I envision very much in the same manner as Paul Sheldon forced Annie Wilkes to eat his burned book at the end of Misery...

Agree.
But how sad that we have reached a stage in which even a sporting event cannot be free of the politics.
In the past, Canadians would have some fun, everybody would celebrate the achievement of the Blue Jays, and nothing more. Now, even this is tinted (tainted?) by political issues.

Well i really want the Jays to win we have to keep in mind who we are dealing with in the White House. The World Series being won by a Canadian team could mean that the announcement about testing nuclear weapons could be followed up by another announcing that they are testing them on Toronto.

Except the Canadians are completely innocent. They did nothing to precipitate this. The blame for what you cite rests squarely on one side (and not the Dodgers).

Oh, sure. That should go without saying.
It is just that this guy is so toxic that even this he has poisoned.
