Navarro is good.
But she also lacks the size and power. Would give my worthless soul for her FH. But I think Badosa does everything a little bit better.
by Fastbackss I agree - Badosa is in form. Will be a solid match. I do think she's slightly more streaky than Pegula , so Pegula remains "the test."
I want to see Zheng / Sabalenka. The balls will be fluffy quickly.
(Sidebar - do we want to have any discussion on why zverev / fritz isn't the night match? I get that Tiafoe has been playing late but...)

Probably Frtiz requesting a day match.
by ashkor87 Badosa isn't reliable at all, Pegula is...and Pegula is a better player anyway. I do think Pegula is over-rated but Badosa is even more so..

Money. Money. Everything about the USO is about money, and I bet some metric somewhere told the USTA that Tiafoe/Dimitrov will be a more viewed match than Zverev/Fritz.
And I bet that Disney has a say now (through ESPN). So, money.

Yes, but also they've been pretty consistent about giving Fritz the assignments he wants. That's why he's been on Armstrong through the first 4 rounds.

It worked today!
by ti-amie Fritz is into the next round with a 7-6(2),3-6,6-4,7-6(3) win over Zverev.
by ponchi101 Love Emma. I have said it. But this is the second match in which her opponent self destroyed. Badosa was up 5-1 and all of the sudden, her strokes stopped landing in. Nothing worked and she could not hold back the emotions.
One member here used to say that it was always 99% mental. That you never forgot how to hit your strokes. But yes, you do. It happens to the hackers of our level, and it happens to the masters at their level. Some days, your strokes aren't there.
OTOH. Good for Emma that she kept her cool (she always does) and waited for the opportunity.

I love it when it is the courts that decide about those issues.

Sure is better than when the score is settled out of court.

Agree. But my understanding, from what was posted in the forum, was that the lady said she was doing this for justice. And then the court decided that the trial was not worth continuing, and the lady decided to accept some money and Zverev paid some fees.
I would have preferred for the trial to be taken to completion. If he had been proven guilty, for the book to have been thrown at him, both by the German courts and the professional associations. But the trial was inconclusive.
So, as was also said here, we will never now.
And we will find out what other courts decide in the Rothenberg trial.

(expletive) yeah Taylor Fritz

To be clear, the fine he paid is $150K euros to the government and $50K to charities. Patea did not sue for or receive any money.
by jazzyg I'm no Zverev fan, but good lord, he has done pretty well for himself on the court with the worst forehand of any top player.
Don't see how he could be considered an underachiever. If he had a decent forehand, he would take more risks.
by shmrck14 The winner will be decided in the Sinner - Medvedev QF. None of these men are going to be able to handle the opportunity in front of them

If Sinner keeps playing the way that he has in the first 4 rounds none of the other men will be able to handle his ground strokes.
by JTContinental First American grand slam finalist on the men’s side since the epic Federer/Roddick Wimbledon final in 2009, if my Wikipedia trolling is correct
by ponchi101 I give both Tiafoe or Fritz a very good chance on Sunday. The crowd will be going wild if they can break serve first.
I may become old style Davis Cup.

If it will be Medvedev (which I consider much less likely) - he could be rattled by hostile crowd. Sinner - not so much.
by ashkor87 Neither Fritz not Tiafoe is in the class of Sinner and Medvedev..I can't imagine the crowd making that much difference..in the US at least
by ponchi101 I am not saying Sinner or Medvedev will be rattled. I am saying the American will be inspired.
Not quite the same.
by Suliso It never worked for Roddick or Agassi against the big three. Why different now?
by ponchi101 Because Sinner or Medvedev are not Roger/Rafa/Novak. The task is not as daunting.
Mind you. I am not saying that Fritz or Tiafoe will go out as a favorite. I am only saying that their chances are not terribly low.
by Suliso Agree, but is Tiafoe/Fritz the same level as Roddick? I think also not.
by ponchi101 What was so special about Roddick? Sure, great serve and a solid inside out FH. Other than that, the rest of his game was top 50, nothing more.
by Suliso 5 Slam finals. Very few have done better. He used his weapons very well and didn't choke often.
by JTContinental This is pretty much the only tournament Medvedev has played well in this year, so I think either of them would have a chance there. I can see Fritz taking out Sinner (their h2h is 1-1), but not Frances (1-4)
Ultimately, I think Sinner will take the title, but it's fun to speculate since it's been 15 years.
by JTContinental I'm also not counting out Draper as a spoiler for this half of the draw. He's been playing excellent tennis.

Prophetic.
by JTContinental Muchova is dealing with a hip injury and a stomach bug; hopefully she can stay healthy enough to give Iga or Jessica a good match.
by ponchi101 Stomach bug can be fixed quickly. A hip injury, against Iga? Nope.

+ Mental game was better in comparison to a Tiafoe for example.

Kind of a low bar, isn't it? Tiafoe cannot be said to have been a giant in that aspect.

I used Tiafoe because we were specifically talking about Sunday's final. I also think Roddick was mentall stronger than Fritz

by ponchi101 Serious question: have you ever seen Fritz check out mentally out of a match? I think he competes well.
