by JTContinental Most of the qualfiers/lucky losers are playing each other in the first round. Jabeur had to get into this tournament as the lucky loser.
by patrick How fall Jabeur has fallen. That look at losing a 2nd Wimbledon final was all the talk instead of giving the winner their deserved attention
by ponchi101 But the talk was prescient. I remember that at least one person here said she was never going to recover from that.
Granted, she has been injured as much as anybody else but still, as you say, what a fall. For a player that is not that old in comparative terms.

by ponchi101 Navarro goes down to Badosa.
By the time she gets to defend those USO points, I wonder how far down will Emma be. And I don't think she will be able to reach SF's there again.
by JTContinental Paolini's performance today was less than inspiring for how many points she'll be defending.
by ponchi101 I will not say there is no way she will repeat last year's Finals run because I am not in the mood for crow, but it seems very difficult. If after that Rome title she was not able to do well at RG, at Wimbledon it will be even more difficult.

She's 7th in the WTA Race, and I think her ranking after Wimbledon will probably reflect that ranking rather than her current live ranking of 4th.

by ti-amie The kindest way to describe Cori's play today is listless.
by mick1303 Jabeur frequently is referred to as "magician". But to my eyes Vondrousova is every bit as crafty and has at least the same elite anticipation. But her game seems more purposeful.
by ponchi101 The "magician" label gets pegged on you the moment you hit a few drop shots. Jabeur had a bit more than just that.
No longer, it seems (I can't see the matches) but she got tagged that way.
by jazzyg Jabeur has made three slam finals and Vondrousova has made one, when yes, she did beat an out-of-form, nervous Jabeur. She does have a lot of game, is very crafty and has a beautiful drop shot, but her overall career accomplishments and her personality do not match Jabeur's. If she starts winning again--and this tournament is a good start--she will get the recognition, but never the support of Jabeur.
by mick1303 MV made two GS finals rather than one. And more important - she won one of them. This immediately puts her in the different tier. It is not like we're comparing Zverev with some random one-slam wonder like Tomas Johansson or Raducanu, who didn't achieve anything outside the single Slam run.
by jazzyg You are right. I was confusing Vondrousova at that RG with Anisimova, which is funny because Anisim9va is nowhere near as creative.
by dryrunguy In case you missed it, Rybakina had a handful of consecutive match points in the third set tiebreaker... At which point Sabalenka reeled off 5 points in a row to win the match. Hard to watch, especially with everything that been going on off the court for Elena.

I saw the tiebreak in the third set and honestly was floored that Rybakina seemed to vanish mentally. Weird.

How far can Vondrousova go in two weeks?
It’s her first title in 2 years so I would not get too excited by it yet.Although last year’s winner suggests that anyone who shows up with a racquet can win it.

I couldn't remember who won the women's title and had to look it up.
Wimbledon 2024: Barbora Krejčíková beats Jasmine Paolini to ...
In 2024, Barbora Krejčíková won the women's singles title at the Wimbledon Championships. She defeated Jasmine Paolini in the final.
by ponchi101 Vondrousova has been injured a lot. If healthy, and I know that is a big if, then I my question is oin all seriousness.
