by dave g This first part is a list of contestants and their picks. Usually this portion of the thread will only be updated once all of the matches for that day are finished. Also, if your pick loses, your list of picks will be "redded out", and you are out of the ATP side of the contest.

Lol, wow.

How about the fact that you get a reprieve today? The alternative would be you get eliminated.

.....AND, here's another thought. Try, as a volunteer, to run one of these freakin' contests, and never make any mistakes.

We all are also quite capable of looking each day at the official order of play- which can also be found in this site.

Oh, I'm one of them. Thank you for giving us another chance. Much appreciated. Thanks for all the work you do so we can enjoy a game we have fun with and don't pay anything for.

As stated in contest rules, everyone is responsible for researching their own picks. Organizers could just not post the schedule and force everyone to look it up themselves. You should consider yourself lucky you were allowed to stay ;)

The Korda problem has been fixed.

Having to make a second Day 3 pick.
The general rule is that everyone needs to make one pick a day. Having accidentally listed the Day 3 matches in that post left me with two reasonably fair options. Option 1. Give everyone else Day 3 off. Meaning that everybody who made a Day 2 pick would not have to make a Day 3 pick. and Option 2, Have the people who did pick a Day 3 match make a second Day 3 pick. I want this contest to progress, so I didn't want to give the vast majority of the contestant a day off. There are a lot of other Day 3 matches to pick from, so I am do not feel requiring you to pick a different Day 3 match is much of an imposition. If this had happend during Round 4, where the quality of the selection of a second Round 4 matches from that half might decrease noticably, then I would be choosing Option 1.

by patrick Agree on Option 2 at this point

by dave g The loss rate for Day 1 was about average. You (the group) did better than average on Day 2. Congratulatons.

by IronMike It shows me picking Popyrin for day 2 but I picked Zhang. Can you check the list in the beginning of this thread? Thank you

by atlpam I noticed I am marked red for a Jarry loss on day 2, but my day 2 pick was Musetti. (post #84 in the day 2 pick thread)

Thanks!

by Grancordero Same thing. I picked Zhang, not Mussetti. Both won, so no big deal, but just for the record.

by oliver0001 Unfortunately, I've picked Djere for day two, not Ruusuvori (as it says in the picks and results on page one).

by gunner I picked Ruusuvuori (post #46 in the day 2 pick thread) for day two but it shows me as red.

by tcard I picked Popyrin for Day 2 not Ruusuvouri which is showimg in pcks and results thread

by tcard I picked Popyrin for Day 2 not Ruusuvouri which is showimg in pcks and results thread

by New England Nitemare I picked Korda for Day Two; not Ruusuvouri which is showing in picks and results thread. Please and thank you.

by bernadette27 I am marked red for Jarry on day 2. Did not pick him.
My pick was Ruusuvuori. Please correct.

No biggie - I am happy to go back through the pics manually if you need help with corrections.

by Stripes Just a heads-up that I picked Korda on Day 2 and I am listed as having picked Ruusuvuori. Probably will not impact the big picture, but wanted to set the record straight just in case. Thanks for all your efforts!

Hi! Just calling attention to what seems to be an error in the listing of picks. I actually picked Machac, Purcell (picked wrongly from Day 3), and Michelsen (my 2nd Day 3 pick). Maybe the picks listed for other people have errors too. Thank you!

by GreenGourd Hello! I’m mistakenly in red. The tally has me as a “No Pick,” but I picked Zhang. It’s Post #50 in the Day 2 thread.

by Valynn I picked Ruusuvuori for Day 2 but it shows I picked Thompson

by Cdavid99 Hi! I picked Popyrin for Day 2 (post #97), but it shows I picked Jarry. Thanks for all your hard work, as I’m sure this isn’t easy!

by shmrck14 Hi! I picked Popyrin but it's listed as Ruusuvouri. They both won so I guess it's fine. I doubt I'd pick either in round 2

by airmutable I also picked Ruusuvuori but am listed as having picked Davidovich Fokina. I might like to pick ADF later. Thanks!

by weefunk I picked Popyrin (post #65 in day 2 thread) but am listed as having picked Zhang. They both won, but just wanted to point it out.

by dave g I think I have fixed everything in the contestants' list of picks at the beginning of this thread. Please take a look at it and let me know if you are finding anything wrong.

Evidently, I accidentally alphabetically sorted just the Day 2 pick column, as opposed to sorting the whole sheet by the Day 2 pick column.

by nelslus ....AND, as should have been obvious to all of us- 21 of us go out from the straight-set loss from the Clown Monfils-Lite Bubbles. Who should be on all of our Do Not Play lists. Not only because he played and won a bunch of matches right before the Aussie (see: Tabilo, Alejandro, Daniel, Taro, etc., etc.) But- because he is Bublik The Useless. :yahoo:

by nelslus PS: Happy for Nagal, for sure. Who, by the end of his third Qualifying win, could barely move.

Of the eight matches, if people want to beat the draw, people need to stay away from the matches with the players in the top 8 seeds. And everybody did stay away from those four matches. So all of the pick are from the matches with the four lower ranked seeds, and we have picks in each of those matches. The Shelton-Mannarino is the toughest match on paper. We will have to wait and see if the closeness between Shelton's and Mannarino's ranks creates the closest match or not. I don't know enough of the three unseeded players to know if their current successes are signs of improved play or just blips on the radar.

by ptmcmahon Well, unless any of us have a sleeper non top 8 player :D (I sure don't though!)

Comments: Like yesterday, you kept away from the matches with the four highest seeded players, with Hurkacz replacing Rune in this strategy. I think this is a good idea. I also see that none of you decided to pick from the Norrie-Ruud match. This is a good idea too.

I have not seen Cazaux play, so I have no idea of who will win the Cazaux-Griekspoor match. Good luck.

Last week Tommy Paul lost a round or two before he would have been lower ranked than his opponent. So, I don't have a lot of confidence in your pick.

Dimitrov is probably the most likely of these three to win. However, there is possibility that you will have to do a lot of careful picking if Dimitrov manages to beat Medvedev next week. I'll admit that Dimitrov beating Medvedev is less that 50-50, but I think it is more likely that Dimitrov will win than most people. That might be because I like Dimitrov.

by dave g I usually use 25 survivors as the place where I move to an Updated Results thread. So, once the results from today's matches are in, I will move us to an Updated Picks and Results Summary thread.

by Suliso It could also be that you guys move nowhere at all. Paul and Griekspoor already lost and Dimitrov is on court.

by patrick Dimitrov is out in 4 sets and the ATP Survivor Pool is done and dusted before Week 2

by gunner So we are all getting a medal 🥳🥳

You just had to say that :)

by dave g

Wow, I wasn't expecting this result at all.

by Fastbackss Someone said "you have to go with one really tough pick to beat the SP."

I chose this one , wasn't happy with it, but felt was my best option for future success.

Checked score this morning, saw the "L" and said (a form of) "doggone it" - didn't know Dimitrov had lost too. Assumed he hadn't. So imagine my surprise when seeing the result.

I feel like am being rewarded for a poor decision haha

I can't recall.
And remember, we have an UPDATED WTA topic because so many people lost so early.
Wow...

by Merdon Holy moly! I’ve been playing these for years and years (unsuccessfully) and can’t remember anything like this.

by New England Nitemare I've been playing these survivor pools since 2011, I don't think I've ever seen a pool end before an Updated thread was posted. Has to be a record for a pool to end before the 4th round has commenced. I thought the WTA pool would end before the ATP would.....who knew????

by ptmcmahon It's like we were competing to see which we could be the most mediocre at :)

by ponchi101 This SP has to go down with an asterisk:
Certainly most winners in one single pool
Shortest lived pool (most likely).
And remember, in a sense, there were no bandwagon crashes. Everybody was decimated in slow groups. It was not as if somebody got Gasquet'd or BVDZ'd and the pool was left with 3 players left one day.
It was a final day massacre.

by Suliso WTA pool might have ended this early before. Also I believe we had 40+ winners one year with Henin at RG.

by meganfernandez
Suliso wrote: Sat Jan 20, 2024 5:07 pm WTA pool might have ended this early before. Also I believe we had 40+ winners one year with Henin at RG.
Someone pointed out on Twitter that the B3 format is more prone to upsets. And we have seen that.

by ptmcmahon Based on my predictions I likely would have been taking Alcaraz if SP was still on, so I'll consider myself lucky it ended when it did.
