Can you "fire" someone unaffiliated?

Indeed. Maybe you can cancel him?

That is a strange condition.

Are we supposed to believe he's fit enough to speak coherently or is this one of those situations where they'll be evaluating him to determine just what his condition is?

Let's wait and see. Remember that every athlete, in a team sport, risks losing his/her starting position to the replacement if the new guy/gal comes out on fire. Nobody is ever going to forget how there was no way Drew Bledsoe was going to lose his starting job to a rookie QB drafted 66 in the draft.
Tua was playing well, but he is not Mahones, who is irreplaceable. Sometimes, the players want to be tougher than they really are. Maybe he also wanted to play, which the Dolphins' medical staff should not have taken into consideration (if he pushed to be on the field).

And by 66th, you mean 199th?

And technically he took over in his second year, not rookie year.

I stand corrected.
I thought he had been 66. What do I know

This has got to be the worst football game I have ever seen. But it was fun in the end.

Ughh....Denver will be kicking themselves, no way they should have lost this game. Terrible!!!!

You are 4 & 1, around the 5 yard line. You still have two minutes left.
I know you could have kicked the FG. But if you were going for it, why not go for a new set of downs? Gordon was working well. They still had time.
I sincerely believe that the stats people are not doing a good job.

I think the stats people would have said to run the ball too. I'm blaming the play caller for that one.
But like I always say... people only notice when following the stats doesn't work. A team could go 19 for 20 on fourth down and all people would talk about is the one miss

Or if they kick the field goal and then Indy go down the field and get a touchdown, no one blames the conservative play.

Yes. But I want to see other stats.
Baltimore last week. They go for the TD, and fail. But the stat that I want to see is: how any teams LOSE the game when up by three points, and inside the 2 minute warning? It is not only about conversions, it is also about the end result. If it ends up that the team that scores the FG loses the game 66% of the time, go for the TD, regardless of the conversion rate of TD's. But if the stats say that those team up by 3 win the game 60% of the time, you have to re-think that one.

Yeah we’re only lucky enough to see the full “here are all the scenarios” with 3-4 probabilities occasionally. And even still that can be tricky as I imagine they’re drawing from tons of previous situations to estimate, which may not be completely appropriate in the situation.
I’ll have to make sure I applaud when going with the stats works.

Had say Denver gotten a first down and run out the clock, no one would have given the decision any second thought.
