Bouchard plays 17 year old Noskova tomorrow in qualies, and I think that the short win streak will come to a halt.

That game at 5-2, 'twas a double fault and errors, and I believe he got to 30-all on Simon's serve. Horrible to watch the rest. Just completely choked- constantly hitting balls in the net. By the end, he had a medical time-out, and could barely move. Sure, it was hot and humid. But- uggghhhhh.

I also hated Asia and Dolehide failing to take advantage of their opportunities.
The American women had a pretty disastrous first round. Conversely, the Czech Republic had 3 players under 18 score first round wins.

Stat of the day: 5 out of the 10 highest ranked players under 18 are from Czech Republic (Linda Noskova, Linda Fruhvirtova, Sara Bejlek, Brenda Fruhvirtova and Nikola Bartunkova). The rest is one each from Andorra, Philippines, Croatia, USA and South Africa.

She is still the weirdest case ever in tennis. It was not just one good tournament; it was SF, SF, F and QF in the four slams in 2014. And then, vanished. Totally odd.

Genie didn't vanish.
Not at all...
On 'social media' and in various magazines, she was extremely present - even if her clothing was not.

Didn't she have shoulder surgery? I know that couldn't be 8 years of recovery time from 2014, but I am pretty sure she did have shoulder surgery.

Genie just went back into her little bottle until her next master rubbed the bottle and "POOF" she came out again.

It actually was the fourth round she lost at the U.S. Open, and I think her vanishing started before then. I was watching the night she played Shelby Rogers at the Canadian Open in her first match since getting drubbed by Kvitova in the Wimbledon final, and something looked seriously wrong with her game as she lost the third set 6-0. Her record for the rest of the year was below .500, and although she reached the quarters of Australia in 2015, she was done as a serious player anywhere.

Fernandez Contreras Gomez beat the #1 seed in qualifying. She qualified for the French and Wimbledon, too. She’s a Vanderbilt grad, grew up in Texas. Nice to see the Mexican flag in the women’s draw.

She seems undersized to me, but she’s a fighter.
