African American day at the US Open.

Eubanks had triple match point on Barrère's serve in the third set- didn't get it (no shame there- maybe Eubanks had a minor chance on one point, but otherwise, Barrère played well to hold)- but still plays a nearly flawless third set tiebreaker (10-4). Osuigwe's up a set and a break at 4-3- gets broken- then breaks back and holds for the win (I only watched the end of the first set with this match- followed this on livescores). Vickery plays a very solid match (mostly without her big first serves- just great forehands, placements and smarts) against the qualifier 2nd seed- up to serving for it in the second set- albeit- minor detail- Sachia had opportunities in TWO games to go up a double brea-, she's up 5-4- goes down 0-40- her dour specialty-act goes on full hyper-alert-drive- but then, for ONCE, she gets her sh** (*self-censored), holds, and wins 3 & 4. It was truly lovely that all three were able to un-scrub and win these matches.

LOL, the commentators were all about Sachia's mopeyness, so that, when a trainer was called after the first set- nope, it wasn't for Ms. Mopey, it was for Zhu- who had her back worked on a few times. Nevertheless, Sachia was most definitely the better player today. She's so good when she can get out of her own way.

Also nice to see Kreuger win- luckily for her, she was up a double-break in the second set, as she did get broken once. I'd have been happy if Boulter had won instead- she's a talent. But, she apparently has a lung infection, of all things. I only saw the last few games of this match.

OH, and when I woke up (admittedly, late), they were interviewing Brandon Holt and Momma's Turn Austin. His game just keeps on improving- also great to see. We got to see him in Chicago.

I always thought karma came for her since it was not an injury or the fall that started the downfall no matter what she tries to pretend. It was a while ago so people may have forgotten some of what had happened, but for a time there she was single-handedly trying to reshape the image of Canada Nice. Damn near caused an international incident at Fed Cup.

FYI, don't be fooled by the incredible amount of yapping going on on ESPN News. There are some great qualifying matches on the schedule today, especially if you want a peak at some of the highly touted juniors on the women's side.

Verdasco is in as a lucky loser, his 18th time playing in the main draw at the Open. Not sure if any other lucky losers have been named.
