Stat provided by ESPN.
Sabalenka has won 262 points in her 4 matches so far. Of that, 125 have been winners. That's 47%.
And that's impressive.

Finally seeing Rybakina. She's playing Alona.

Alona is up 2-0 in the second set. The comms, Mary Jo and I think Rennae, have emphasized that Iga did not adjust at all during her match vs Rybakina. Early going in the second set but Alona is trying to do some things differently.

Not sure which I liked more, watching Ostapenko lose, or Rybakina winning.

Alona can hit the ball hard but she went quietly in straight sets.

Not a Rybakina fan - yet? But at least Alona tried.

We were joking about the U/O for UE's. We said 40.
Total was 43.
These two are faithful followers of first strike, never step back tennis. It was a good match.

Anyone who doubted Rybakina's talent because she didn't win much after Wimbledon should no longer doubt it. She's for real.

Somewhat surprising stat: Vekic leads the head-to-head with Sabalenka 5-1.

My first time seeing her this year- she's been doing some commentary on the matches via ESPN+. I read her book. What that poor woman went through with her evil father and horrible childhood. Nothing but love for Jelena.

Rybakina's first win over Alona. Alona got agitated a lot. She needs to be laser focused on the game to get to her wins, she actually said as much the other day. It's truly hilarious how often she gets mad at the electronic calls so many years in to using the system. It's like she thinks it's got an agenda against calling the shots in her favor.

If Rybakina wins this, I hope no one is surprised when she's still not a fan fave. I think it can happen, but not just because she won Wimbledon or Wimbledon and AO. She's photogenic off-court, she seems likable, but she's got to give the fans more to work with. And everyone needs to stop pretending she's not Russian.

Rybakina reminds me a bit of Pliskova, with the FH/BH dynamic inverted. The serve is excellent, the BH is better than the FH (Rybakina), the movement is not stellar. She hit one volley that was downright Navratilova-esque, so she can play there.
The nerves seem to have been manufactured in Sweden. Her composure when serving for the match is awesome.

For real. I guess people have been giving her a hard time and they need to get over themselves. She's found a way to be happy after the awful things she's gone through, find a new hobby and let her be.

What does it matter if Rybakina is Russian or not? How is that in any way relevant to anything?
Should that determine how people view her?
It should not.

People need to stop pretending that all Russians are bad people.
