Well, he claims it was a fever. That is easily checked, so I don't think he is fatigued or anything. He most likely does have a fever.
I'll take his word.

FAA won the first set 6-4. Foki has forced a second set TB and is up 2-1.

As I've said elsewhere, I think it's a case of today's players being so coddled and spoiled, getting paid obscene amounts of money, getting everything they want, having 'staff' do everything for them at tournaments, etc., that if they don't feel absolutely 100%, they pull out.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 5:20 pm More walkovers.
This a is a trend, and both the ATP and WTA have to start looking at it. Are players being asked to play too much (this would have nothing to do with Sinner having a fever)? Are they just simply not playing when they don't want to?
Not saying one way or another, but something is happening and both tours need to find out.
They have no sense of commitment to the fans, to the tournament, or to the sport. It is much more take than give. THAT is the difference between today's players and yesterday's players.
I doubt that a guy like Connors is happy with the frequency of players quitting these days. Connors would have gone out to play in a wheelchair if he were allowed to.
That said, COVID-19 has had an impact in the number of withdrawals and even in in-match retirements - aside from not feeling well if one has COVID, there is the element of not wanting it to be transmitted to others. Even if COVID has not been confirmed in a person, if it's suspected, a withdrawal is warranted.
But even during the pandemic, 90% of the withdrawals and in-match retirements do not appear to be COVID-related in any way.

Goffin withdrew before his match with Mikael Ymer.
Tennis either has the most fragile athletes in any professional sport, or the least committed.
Either way, it's embarrassing.

Tsonga looks like a soon to be middle aged man watching a tennis match here.
I vividly remember seeing him play in Juniors - I believe it was just a couple of months ago.
Ugh.
I wish there were a way to slow down Time...

Smashing several racquets a couple of weeks ago... a few good wins this week...
Has Bublik finally decided to take his tennis seriously?
If so, the other players are in trouble, because he has loads of very natural ability. People commonly didn't realize this, because he never took tennis seriously and didn't care if he won or lost.
Maybe even he himself didn't realize how much talent he has until now...
