Best player to never be ranked No. 1. Or, more charitably, the best No. 2 ever.

He dove to the court several times during the match. You admire the dedication and it's fun to watch, but it's also dumb - he could easily get hurt,

But on Sunday he has to bring it to Carlitos (I don't see Sinner beating him).
I'm feeling the SinnerGy (TM) of an upset
Nice!! I wish you better luck coining the term than I had with Kyrgiosity.

Had an overhead for 15-40 on Carlos's serve for 5-1... I think it was a fairly easy one, not quite a gimme but he shouldn't have netted it,

Ah, to be 19. I'm sure this is something Juan Carlos Ferrero will be discouraging.

I was thinking the same thing - I appreciate the all out effort to get to every ball, but long term, sometimes it makes sense to just say "too good".

Kept scratching my head, thinking of any other player that could be better. I thought Mandlikova.
Nope, her highest ranking was #3.
So I would say you are right. Best ever #2. And better than a few #1's ;)

Why couldn't they start this final at 1:30, so the shadows would not bother so much?

I want to be clear that it is not an appreciably hot day in Miami today. Nothing like it will be in another month or two thru about November or so. Not that hot and not that humid either. BUT...

FYI, the Miami Dolphins are massive assholes and specifically designed their stadium to BAKE the opposing team while playing them, while ensuring that their side gets fantastic shade. So the opposing team suffers in the heat and humidity, which in September and October of the NFL schedule, equals an uncommon competitive advantage. So it is not an exaggeration to say that Medvedev can be feeling more comfortable on one end of this court and Sinner be suffering on the other side, the angles of the stadium and how the sun hits are truly, that different. This is not the right stadium to say, well they both had to deal with the conditions. You should see the Dolphins just chilling on their sideline while the other team is suffering signs of heat stroke. It's been on display plenty of times, but probably none worse than a game they had against the Buffalo Bills this season when that entire team just went thru it because of the differences of the sidelines. Fun times.

And yes, they should've started this final at 2 PM.

As a former Dolphins' fan... not MAAAAAAASSIVE assholes ;) . You can build a stadium to favor you, you do it. The Celtics have enjoyed decades of an "advantage" because their parquet is a bit weird. When they moved from the Boston Garden to the TD, they made a point to take the parquet with them.
But this entire Hard Rock Stadium is a bit messy. The shadows, the outer courts, the fact that this is not really a tennis stadium. My GF follows a girl in IG and she went to the tournament on Thursday. Nothing but trouble, she said (the IG girl).

(And yes. The NFL should have not allowed the Dolphins to do that set up. They should alternate sides with the visiting team).

It's less about the competitive advantage and more about player safety. You can't pretend you care about player safety and then act like that version of a competitive advantage should be allowed. If it was like baseball parks being built to make home runs easier or harder, that would be different. There are a host of competitive advantages in other stadiums, they just aren't a physical detriment to the opposing team.

This is probably an ideal setup for a major tennis tournament in a general sense, using a facility that can operate as something other than a large tennis tournament year-round has got to be considerably more profitable than say Indian Wells. And Stephen Ross makes a mint on the events he hosts at the Hard Rock Stadium. But in terms of being great for the fans and maybe the players, likely not ideal.

Despite Sinner's efforts, the final result was really never in doubt.
Sinner was apparently not feeling well physically - but I doubt that made a difference in the end result.

It would have been interesting to see Alcaraz vs. Medvedev, part 2 (assuming both were healthy)... to see if Medvedev would change anything after the sound beating he took at Indian Wells.

Onto the women's doubles Final now...

You wouldn't know that if you only read tennis "journalism".
