I wonder if Medvedev has a chance now, at RG? I think not..after all, it takes someone like Nadal to follow up the Italian with the French, and Medvedev is not that...

Is he going to move to being the favorite now? I say no; no need to go there.
But saying that somebody that just won Rome does not have a chance at RG is also a bit extreme. He played his matches, beat some solid competitors, is doing well on clay.
And if you give Rune a chance at RG, how could you not give Medvedev a chance? He just beat Rune; the logical conclusion follows.

Before Rome Medvedev was #9 favorite with bookies for RG. He beat 3 players who were above him: Rune, Tsitsipas and Zverev. And this list included Nadal who obviously shall be discounted now.

I expected Saint Holger to take this match because I felt Medvedev was on a bit of a lucky streak on clay. I was wrong.

Saint Holger had chances. The first set should have gone to a TB. Holger forgot to keep the ball in the court, and a truly lousy drop shot attempt sealed that set.
Then he had leads in the second set, and could not. He really should be holding two MS1000 titles this season, because he also let Monte Carlo escape.

Medvedev's win in Rome feels a bit to me like Sampras winning Rome in 1994 - a great result for a player not comfortable on the surface, but more of a career highlight than a preview of future success.

I was thinking the same thing...Few people remember that Sampras won the Italian once..never won anything on clay again...I expect Medvedev to be the same

Due to Medvedev's laid back personality he may have more success in unexpected moments. I think he learned his lesson from last year and nowadays is not strongly emotionally invested. But in his case it is not interfering with his ability to put in a necessary work. At least, not yet.

interesting comment by Medvedev, crediting 'softer' strings for his improved performance..gives his shots more depth, he says..
