by ponchi101 I had not noticed Shelton was all the way up to 30. Tough match against Sonego. I say Sonego in 5.

by ponchi101 Hurkacz and Khachanov made to work hard. They won, but having to go 5 sets in the first day must be draining. Fortunately, they get an extra day of rest (I guess, if 2R starts on Wednesday).
Stefanos having a tough fourth set.

by Oploskoffie Kudos to Griekspoor for pulling through against Martinez. He has a loose piece of bone in his ankle which requires surgery but he didn't want to miss Roland Garros. He was doubtful, however, about being able to play a five set match and after sets two and three I thought he was gone...

by ashkor87 Sakkari vs Muchova poor match thus far..both seem nervous.

by ponchi101 Muchova played a couple of ill-timed drops, and Sakkari frames a FH to lose the set. Not the cleanest set of tennis you have ever seen.

by Suliso Tauson delivered a virtual double bagel after falling behind 0-2. Maybe she has gotten her confidence back?

by dryrunguy I was just swinging by to ask a question. I haven't seen Shelton play in ages. He is very flat today, and it had me wondering if he is trying to tone down the "college tennis" thing he does or if he just hasn't had anything to get excited about today.

But just moments ago, he got the break back in the second, and I saw the "college tennis" version of Ben Shelton. So it's still there. It does seem to be dialed down quite a bit, though.

The college tennis stuff is not very popular on the pro-tour - see Danielle Collins - so maybe Shelton has been getting a bit grief for it in the locker room.

It was common fodder for commentary in many of his matches last year. It was discussed often. So he must be aware of it. So far today, he has had one outburst (after breaking back), and that was totally understandable. He might have even NEEDED that because up to that point, there had been nothing to celebrate.

by ti-amie After a tight first set that Pegula won she's up 4-1 in the second vs Collins.

Shelton was very disappointed with himself during the changeover before Sonego took the match. That's good to see. He'll remember being a seed and crashing out in the first round.
