Fast turnaround for Kerber and Siegemund to play United Cup in Sydney Sunday night and R1 in Adelaide probably Tuesday, since they don't have a bye. Maybe they will get Wednesday starts.

by Suliso For Rybakina would be smart to withdraw.

Suliso wrote: Sun Jan 07, 2024 8:38 am For Rybakina would be smart to withdraw.
i was thinking the same..

by ponchi101 Ditto. No need to play anymore, unless she does the "let me play two matches" and then cite an injury.
Which would be shameful, but by now, the players don't mind.

by ashkor87 Very puzzling defeat for Krejcikova here at the hands of Kalinskaya - Krejcikova seemed listless and unable to hit through the court - of course, she is not that powerful anyway, but how did she win the French then? .. will have to go back and study that again..!

by ashkor87 saw a bit of Alexandrova vs Kudermetova match on Youtube - both looked undercooked, need match practice.. happy that Alexandrova won but too many bad errors.. Rybakina didnt look all that sharp against Bucsa either, she would have been better of not playing this tournament..

by ponchi101 Or she is just using it as practice sessions, playing just to stay at 90% and gear it up next week.
She will lose today or tomorrow. Which will be better, so she will not enter the Aussie on a streak.

Agree..I think she is tiring..reminds me of Miami..I had predicted then that the first good player she meets, will beat her- Kvitova did. Though Alexandrova is not in the same class, she could well beat her today.

this is why Rybakina isn't my pick to win the AO. Too inconsistent.

by meganfernandez Taro Daniel beat Ben Shelton, and I'm happy for him, as much as I like Shelton. He said in his speech that he was trying to avoid playing Brisbane, because there wasn't a single ray of sunshine last year, but now he's loving it.

He speaks English with no trace of an accent. His dad is American but he grew up in Japan and Spain.

by ti-amie He's one of the players I follow and try to watch his matches when I can. I'm glad we got to hear him speak, and glad he didn't have any physical problems after his tough match yesterday.

Maybe I just don't like him!!

by ponchi101 I actually think that is one healthy relationship. She is not cowered by him, she replies to his crap, they seem to treat each other as equals. Sure, there have been occasions like this one, but that is the point. She does not ignore him or pretends nothing has happened. She tells him to STFU.
Not every relationship is silent. These two can argue in public. So, fine with me.
(As long as there are no insults).
