Re the list of junior champions, the boys list looks more impressive than the girls!! Is that normal? Maybe if the girls are that good, they play directly with the seniors?

By the way it was the higher ranked players who won both junior singles titles.

I am very happy Hsieh won, but that was a pretty poor doubles final. A mismatch that easily could have been 6-1, 6-2 if Ostapenko and Kichenok had not saved nine game points in the first two games of the second set.

I've always been fascinated by Ostapenko's relative doubles success, but this was the first time I ever saw her play doubles. She made far too many errors on returns and had no instincts at the net. Only on occasion did her power and ability to hit angles help her team.

She made so many errors… off second-serve returns even. Very poor.

I loved watching Kichenok run back and forth at the net, to no avail, trying desperately to pick off something. No match for Mertens and Hsieh keeping the ball away from her, and no help from her partner setting her up. It was like a video game.
