Thompson wins his first title … a few days after trailing Michelson 6-1, 4-0, 40-15.

Ruud gave his speech in some decent Spanish. Thompson then said in his speech, “I asked Casper if he could speak a Spanish and he said not really, so he is full of (expletive).”

Not only that. He is also done a singles-doubles combo. Which is getting progressively rare. Starting 2000 (for 24+ years) it was only 33 such occurrences. For a decade of the 90s it was 35. For a decade of the 80s (which I didn't complete yet) I already listed 67.

Good on Ruud, and Thompson for sticking with the doubles - this type of scheduling is ridiculous, but good on Thompson to go 3-0 for the day - how many players have won 3 professional matches in one day outside of a Grand Slam.

Great achievement! What a day for him.

An example to many. Will he ever be a factor at big tournaments? No, most probably not. But if you work hard, and keep at what you do, maybe smaller victories like these will be yours.
We are always so focused on the big guys and the big tournaments. And we forget about this kind of achievements. Good for Thompson.
