Nice win for Noskova. Sakkari tumbles out of the top 10. Perhaps for good?

I fear for Coco.. court is slow, not what suits her, Siniakova seems to be in great form, and Coco herself must be rusty from her extended time off..upset can happen.

true, of course. But she hasnt done as poorly as people think, at the majors. She will rebound.

Perhaps. Maybe she'll have another Garcia-like run at some point. Who knows. It's mostly in her head, right? She can get that right if she works at it.

Only to some extent, I think. I think she's technically not good enough to be in the top 10 for years to come. Also she's not that young anymore.

Mertens had a dip last year (maybe another year, I don't know when she started to fall off) but I thought she was getting her form back this year. The Hobart final vs Navarro was very good and she lost to Kostyuk 7-6 in the third in Melbourne (I really thought she's make the quarters in that section). She's one of those players that I never dount out. Consummate pro who knows how to win matches. But lack of power hurts her against players who are at their peak form.

Good points. at least she got her 1000 title. I guess I won't be surprised if she as another good run left in her.

Gauff losing is a surprise of the day for me no matter what else happens later.

Agreed. Definitely didn't see Siniakova beating Gauff, in straight sets no less. As for Sakkari, she's won one match in 3 tournaments so far this year. she clearly isn't playing like a top 10 player right now. I don't see her getting back there no time soon.

In fact she probably gets back even without playing next week. Big points drop for Muchova and only Kasatkina within 400 points. It's likely over after IW, though.

Just noticed that Navarro beat Mertens 1 and 3, rematch of Hobart final, but that match was super tight. Is this indoors?

Gauff was 5-1 against Siniakova, so that loss was a surprise.

Siniakova rattled off 6 games in a row in the second set when Gauff was up 4-0. Seems like Gauff lost focus or something. This was Gauff's first match since the Australian. I wonder if her confidence is down or she just wasn't ready to compete this week but didn't' want to withdraw because o the appearance fee.

I dount and count Mertens out. (In singles).
