Mirra is not even 17 yet. Nobody is fully developed at that age.

Right... any losses are pretty normal. She has overachieved so far. SHe has a bright future, most likely, but you never know. Lots of circumstances could prevent the obvious success from happening.

She has all the tools to be a top level player. This lull seems similar to the one Gauff had a couple of years ago after her game was no longer a novelty o ntour.

And since when is Camila Giorgi such a great player? Can she belt the ball? Sure. Can she keep it within the lines? Seldom.
Don't forget Camila won the Rogers Cup a few years ago...
I know. And then she returned to her level. That only adds to my idea. On any given week, anybody can win.

I think people over-rate Pegula and under-rate Kostyuk and Giorgi..Kostyuk was always considered a future champion..Pegula is Pegula, totally reliable against lesser players and not able to beat the really good players (without help from the weather and the scheduling, as at the Rogers)

Raonic ends up playing Nagal rather than Nadal - what a difference just one letter can make.

There's a rain delay but it's only 7:20p in Cali so they may be able to resume play and get the matches in.
I'll post the expected OoP for tomorrow.

some interesting matchups: Caro vs Vekic.. both are really better on fast courts, neither will ike these courts, but I think Vekic has a bit more power?may do better.. Kerber vs Osta would be a classic, if it werent for the fact that Kerber has been away and is probably only 80%.. I would definitely expect Ostapenko to win this - Kerber has a great service return but it is different in kind from Vika's.. Osta can be beaten by someone who really punishes her second serve lollipop, but dont see Kerber as capable of doing that..
Giorgi - Noskova,I really dont know what to expect, I havent seen enough of Noskova- she is young, probably nobody has.. I am still looking for Michelsen to beat Paul - both are volleyers, but Mickelsen is more of a natural aggressor, that should work better than hanging about at the baselne.

Love this analysis. Keep it coming!

Andy Roddick talked about the court speed and its effects on IW on his podcast this week. Thinks Medvedev doesn't like the surface, despite getting to the final last year - he likes a skiddier surface. And he says the surface is tailor-made for Alcaraz.

It might be, but I think Alcaraz is in poor form right now. Unless he rises like Phoenix from ashes I don't see it.
