This is why I'm not fully on the Coco wagon. You can't lose to Sakkari in a big match, sorry. Once every three years, okay. It's tennis, it happens, Sakkari is one of the best players in the world. But you don't lose with UFEs and double faults. If she plays out of her mind, then she was better that day. But champions don't suck against lesser players this much.

Sakkari has clearly been playing better with Witt. I think attitude is helping her in these tight matches.
It could be that she and Witt are in a trial period and she has to prove herself to him?

Cori making the semi's was a triumph of will. She played poorly most of the tournament and in the semi's ran into a highly motivated Sakkari.
Your Sakkari theory is interesting. It definitely has given her new motivation.

Gauff wasn't at her best this week, not even close, and that's why I'm not fully on the bandwagon yet. Her level is inconsistent for what I consider a champion.

Medvedev on clay is not about power, it is about the movement. He is not as good sliding as others.
Which is also the reason he is not as good on grass. There, he is not as nimble; his movement is heavier.

IMO it does matter. The level of power and athleticism on men's tour is much-much higher. And this creates a landscape where surface specialists with a significant skew are less likely to reach such heights in the overall ranking as top 5. On WTA it is still possible though, as your examples prove.

More or less surprised than when he won Miami on a similar surface last year? :D
If you remember, both Sinner and he were so tired at Miami they could barely walk. I don't consider it a real match.

Medvedev does have a big serve but I am surprised anyone thinks he has big shots off the ground..his strength is he can hit them a million times without making a mistake..

There have been some fantastic rallies and points between Carlos and Jannik. Carlos is up 4-1 in the third after a very entertaining second set.

We can also hear both Cahill's and Ferrero's instructions to their player. Kevin Skinner is translating some of the Spanish but admitted he's not getting all of the words since the Spanish Ferrero is speaking is vernacular not textbook Spanish.

It's Carlos in three 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Sinner's 19 match win streak ends.

I agree Fastbackss. You'd think this would be the late match. Then again the crowd has been very supportive of US players during the tournament so maybe that's why?

I will count that as a correct prediction .... though Alcaraz is the higher-ranked player anyway!
