since fresh legs are a great, maybe even decisive factor here, let us look for good performances from
Zverev, Rublev, Halep, Anisimova, Qinwen Zheng and, of course, Pegula.. they must have gotten some good rest by now. I am assuming Djokovic is not playing..Rybakina if she is recovered, who knows..Osaka is getting better by the day, too, so maybe she will do well... losing to Mertens was a shocker (to me at any rate)

Marketa Vondrousova withdrew from Indian Wells before her third-round match and has now followed suit by pulling out from the Miami Open.
The fourth WTA 1000 tournament of 2024 is scheduled to commence on March 19th at Miami Gardens in Florida. A 96-player field will compete to win the tournament, which was won by another Czech last year—Petra Kvitova.
The decorated defending champion will not compete at this year's tournament after announcing her pregnancy earlier this year. Vondrousova will join her compatriot on the absentees' list, citing personal reasons.

After his shocking third-round exit to 123rd-ranked lucky loser Luca Nardi in Indian Wells, Novak Djokovic is moving on to preparing for the European clay-court season.
On Thursday, per reports from Christopher Clarey and Sasa Ozmo, the world No. 1 would not play the Miami Open. Later that day on Tennis Channel Live, Steve Weissman said the 36-year-old is "gonna rest up, get ready for the red-clay season."
Official confirmation didn't come from Djokovic untl Saturday, with the Serbian saying that "at this stage of my career, I’m balancing my private and professional schedule. I’m sorry that I won’t experience some of the best and most passionate fans in the world."
Before returning to the BNP Paribas Open for his opening match this past Saturday, Djokovic hadn’t appeared at either leg of the Sunshine Double since 2019. The Serbian memorably claimed his first of a record-breaking 40 Masters 1000 titles at Miami in 2007. He has won 11 total titles between Indian Wells and Miami, but has now failed to win either of the two prestigious hard-court events since 2016.
Djokovic is 8-3 this season and without a title to his name. After falling to Nardi Monday, Djokovic told press, “Obviously 10 minutes ago I was on the court, so I'm still hot-headed a bit. I need to take a day or two and then see what I want to do next.”

Fellow 20-plus-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, who withdrew from Indian Wells as an injury precaution, has yet to confirm his participation at the Miami Open.
In skipping Miami, it opens the door for Jannik Sinner to continue making his case to challenge the 36-year-old for the world No. 1 ranking this spring. Djokovic has a Roland Garros crown to defend, while Sinner’s best clay-court showing was a Monte Carlo semifinal. The Italian has surpassed his 2023 Indian Wells result with a run to the semifinals (if not farther), though does have a runner-up effort to back up in Miami as well.

I am assuming Djokovic is not playing..Rybakina if she is recovered, who knows..Osaka is getting better by the day, too, so maybe she will do well... losing to Mertens was a shocker (to me at any rate)

That's possible of course, but I think there is also a very high chance of Sunshine double by either Swiatek or Alcaraz. Iga has done it before.

James Blake is the reason Simona Halep received a wild card for Miami

Just as the verdict of Simona Halep’s appeal of her doping ban was revealed, so too was the announcement of her return to tennis. This week at the Miami Open, the two-time Grand Slam champion will return to action for the first time since the 2022 US Open.

“That one’s on me,” the Miami tournament director said on Served with Andy Roddick. “When it comes to some of the tennis decisions they're going to trust me.”
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) officially reduced Halep’s doping ban from four years to nine months, ruling that she didn’t consciously take a banned substance. This allowed her to immediately return to tennis as she had served the nine months within this appeal period, so she capitalized on the “immediate” part and accepted a wild card into the Miami Open.
“I had a feeling we needed to be ready for whether she's going to ask [for a wild card],” Blake said. “We had already gone through a lot of our wild card discussions, and we did, luckily, save one woman's wild card because you never know what's going to happen.”
The only concern for Blake was whether she was ready to compete.
“You don't want to put someone out there who hasn't been practicing,” he said. “It's going to be detrimental to them. We don't want them going out and getting killed.”
Blake sought out Darren Cahill, Halep’s former coach, who confirmed that the Romanian has been preparing for months and was ready for a speedy return.
“We all came to the same conclusion to welcome her back,” Blake said.
All eyes will be on the former world No. 1 as she “rejoins the tour with renewed vigor and an invigorated spirit,” as she said in an Instagram post.
