Jabeur has won this in the past, doubt she is playing that well these days, though..
green clay is a tricky surface, neither clay nor hardcourt.. only Americans have any experience playing on it, so maybe someone like Navarro (or Anisimova?) can do well here..Pegula and Keys too, of course. I would be interested to see whether Krejcikova can do well..her game suits this surface ..
in any case, I would not read much into the results here, as a pointer to the red clay season.. it is more of a transition tournament.

Yes, I think Keys has won it about 5 years ago . Her game is really well suited to clay, better than to grass in my opinion (though most people would say the opposite) - she is powerful but not really quick on her feet..which is why she has done well on clay. .certainly can win this one.

Sloane has won it too but long ago. I am a bit surprised at Sloane doing well on clay..her foot speed, ability to redirect shots and great defence, should have her do better on faster surfaces .I was not at all surprised when she beat Keys at the USO .here, yes, she could win but I would give Keys a better shot ...

Har tru is another sliding surface. You can slide just as on clay.
I played a lot on it. Transitioning from har tru to red clay is just a matter of how slow the people wanted to make the har tru; it can change a lot depending on how many layers they put.
About Sloane. Remember she is a a F.O. finalist. She must know something about the surface.

Yes, I thought sloane should have won that one ..she became passive when she got the lead..which is her failing all her career...not pressing home her advantage. But her run to the finals was surprising, she has never done anything on clay before or since .Keys has consistently done well..

Career-wise, Sloane is 130-74 on clay and has won 64% of her matches on the surface, which seems average for a top player.

I bet Charleston gives nice appearance fees. Danielle went to Virginia, as did Emma. Wonder if she has a good relationship with the Navarros. She could get a Wed start if she has a first-round bye. At least Tuesday. That’s three days. I bet she plays.
