by dave g The Slide into Paris is a fantasy league focusing on the clay court tournaments leading up to Rolland Garros.

Your team will consist of 12 ATP players from the top 100 men on the ATP Tour(*). You will have 150 credits to spend on your 12-person team. The top 100 ranked players are divided into four categories, and each player is priced according to his ranking. You'll need to purchase three players from each category. We will be using the rankings from March 20 (post-Indian Wells).

Each player on your team will be awarded points depending on how deep he goes in each tournament. NOTE: Even if a player withdraws or retires from a match, you will receive full credit for the round that player reached. The next post in this thread shows the tournaments and the points which can be won.

The responsibility of finding out who will be playing which of these events is on you. For deadlines, we will post updates in this thread, as well as in the various threads for picking your initial team and making trades.

Now, do you think you've done a good job scouting players and you know for absolute certainty which players will be leading you to victory? Then go to TSIP 2024: Post Your Team HERE to register your team. After deciding upon an original, unique team, you may change this team as often as you need to, up until the start of the contest, by editing your original post. To see which players are eligible to be picked for your team, the third post in this thread indicates the player groups and costs.

Instead of one of the Category D players, you may pick a player ranked higher than 100 as Wild Card for a cost of 5 points. If you think you have spotted the next Rafael Nadal, but he is currently ranked somewhere in the 100's, you now have the option to put that player on your team. You may trade Wild Card players as you would any other player, but you are limited to no more than one Wild Card player on your roster for any given week. The Wild Card is optional. If you want to pick 3 players from the D group listing, you may do so.

No two contestants may have the same initial team, so your original 12-person team must be different from all other previously posted teams by at least one player. It is your individual responsibility to check the teams that have been posted and make sure yours does not exactly duplicate a team that already has been posted. We will do our best to check entries as they are posted to enforce this, but to save yourself some possible grief later on, we strongly urge each participant to check the teams that already have been posted and make sure your team is different to avoid disqualification.

If the contest has multiple players in the same category with the same last name, please clearly indicate which player you are selecting. If a player selection is ambiguous, then no points will be awarded for any weeks where that roster spot with the ambiguous name is active. If a trade is used with an ambiguous name, the trade will count toward the allotted number for the contest, in addition to that roster spot losing any points it might have earned.

You are allowed up to FIVE substitutions during the five-week contest. Substitutions can be made at any time after the first week begins, but a substitution will not go into effect until the following tournament. To make a substitution, sell a player back (adding their cost to your remaining credits) then simply buy another player. YOU MUST ALWAYS HAVE NO MORE THAN THREE PLAYERS PER CATEGORY ON YOUR TEAM AND YOU CAN NEVER HAVE SPENT MORE THAN 150 CREDITS for a given week. We will create a thread for trades once the contest is underway..

At the end of each week, you may see how you're doing on our scoreboard thread. Results will be posted as soon as possible after each week's competition is complete. The first scoreboard will be posted at the conclusion of the first week's tournaments.

As always, we strongly encourage chatter about the contest. To whine about your team, or commiserate with others about their teams, go to the post TSIP 2024: The Dirt Lounge.

Finally, if you have any questions about the contest, please don't hesitate to ask. We are here to help! To ask questions, please post to this thread, and we will respond as quickly as we can.

Your initial teams are due by the start of play on April 1, 2024 when the first tournament, Marrakesh, gets underway. No teams can be accepted after the deadline.

Best of luck to all, and thank you for participating!

No, we are not doing the week before Roland Garros. I wanted to end the contest with a high scoring week. Adding the week before Roland Garros creates a fairly good chance that the medals are decided in Rome and that we would then have a week that did not have the ability to effect who wins which medals.

Creating the player list is one of, if not, the most tedious portions of running a fantasy league. While the "How it Works" starting post is mostly copy and paste, the player list takes a lot of work deleting all of the unused data from the ATP Tour website. The starting post takes about 4 minutes, and the player list takes at least a half hour. So, I tend to post the starting post, and then get around to working on the player list.

How would four days before starting tournament be too early? People need time to make their teams.

by ponchi101 I assume that he meant that saying POST 3 was too early (since some jerk used that post to write some idiotic opinion, instead of giving Dave time to post the lists). ;)

by ptmcmahon Oh.

by dave g Oh. I had assumed that too early meant that it was too early to use the post Miami rankings. I had to use the post Indian Wells rankings, as opposed to the post Miami rankings, becuse there would not be enough time to pick a team before the tournaments start.

by dave g For Week 1 and team submission: both Estoril and Marrakech are on GMT. So, assuming that the first matches will start at 11:00 a.m. local time, the deadline is 11:00 a.m. GMT, 7:00 a.m. U.S. eastern time and 4:00 a.m. US pacific time.

by dave g Monte Carlo is GMT-1. So, if the first match starts at 11:00 a.m. local time, this will be 10:00 a.m. GMT, 5:00 a.m. US eastern time, and 2:00 a.m. US pacific time.

You should have specified whether Monte Carlo was a Sunday or Monday start. Round 1 main draw match play began this morning at 7:00 AM, so ALL trades now would count toward Barcelona, Munich, and Bucharest.

I completely missed the Sunday start. So much for my trades.

by dave g All three tournaments next week say they are starting on Monday. This means that Bucharest should be starting first. Bucharest is in GMT-2 time. So, if the first match starts at 11:00 a.m. local time, the deadline is 9:00 a.m. GMT, 4:00 a.m. US eastern time and 1:00 a.m. US pacific time.

by ashkor87 To be safe, I have posted my trades already..I am not going to get wiser in 24 hours now.!

by ponchi101 But some players may withdraw or the draw may change.
But I agree about the not getting wiser in 24 hours. None of us! ;)

This is correct.

Main draw match play begins at 11:00 AM local time, Monday, April 15th, in Bucharest, Romania, so the official deadline to post your trades is Monday, April 15th at 4:00 AM US eastern time.

by dave g The ATP first round does not start until Wednesday. Madrid is in the GMT-1 time zone. So, if play starts at 11:00 a.m. local time, the deadline is 10:00 a.m. GMT, 5:00 a.m. US eastern time, and 2:00 a.m. US pacific time.

Looks like Qualifying matches are scheduled for Tuesday, so what Dave posted here, will probably be the correct time for the trades deadline this week. Will post an official one tomorrow when the schedule for Wednesday becomes available.

by Omegadoom Main draw match play begins at 11:00 AM local time, Wednesday, April 24th, in Madrid, Spain, so the official deadline to post your trades is Wednesday, April 24th at 5:00 AM US eastern time.

by dave g The ATP first round matches are scheduled to start on Wednesday, March 8, at 11:00 a.m. local time. Since Rome is in the GMT+1 zone, this is 10:00 a.m. GMT, 5:00 a.m. US eastern time and 2:00 a.m. US pacific time.

by ponchi101 Let's make that MAY 8th. ;)
