Ha!!! I'm probably in that 10% who knows where most of the teams are located since I'm a college basketball junkie. But it hasn't helped in my brackets tho.

I don't know if I'd hit 90% myself... maybe 70-80 But you're right that it doesn't help.
The best year I ever had I filled out bracket at the very last hour- I did a quick search and remember some articling talking about which teams rebounded well and went with that. Didn't join any money pools, just did one to say I had.
Got every game from sweet sixteen on correct (ie the last two weekends.) I finished in about the 99.5th (or maybe 99.95?) percentile and had nothing to show for it

Re: College Basketball Thread
This is absolutely correct. If you think Average Joe knows where Furman, Oral Roberts, Drake and Creighton are located, you are grossly overestimating the American public's general knowledge of colleges. If the location isn't in the title, you at best might get a decent number to guess the state correctly and that's assuming the name isn't misleading (i.e., Miami University is not in the state of Florida). Most people are aware of where the blue bloods are located and where the major universities are many times, but that's about it. And even though Gonzaga is in the tournament every year coming out of their weak ass conference, most people wouldn't accurately name where they are located .
@ponchi, I won my mom's office pool when I was 15 with blind faith in my favorite school growing up (who won the title that year) and the person that won the next year did so because she loved the orange of the Syracuse uniforms. You're good with not knowing literally anything about the schools or even basketball. Actually, knowing too much can be a hindrance at times. It is very common to know of a pool winner that won when they had no business whatsoever even finishing in the top 3.

Happy Sweet Sixteen day! Maybe if all the major conference teams continue to be bounced early, Gonzaga will finally win a championship.

Couple fun games tonight. UCLA is my favorite team (not that I watch much) but youngest has Gonzaga in her bracket so I'm saving the last minute to show her when she gets up... hopefully to trick her into showing a comeback.

These upsets are making our bracket quite fun. My son is 13th of 14, but because he has Xavier to win still could finish first.

Read it was the first time since 1979 but could be incorrect here.
By the way, I am thrilled that a certain football school went down yesterday

Yes, first time since 1979, but also the first time in NCAA Men's history. Seeding started in 1979, this is the first time it's happened since seeding began, so same difference, it's interchangeable. Take your pick in how you phrase it, both are correct.

Yup my hatred for that football team can be partially sated by them losing here

Re: College Basketball Thread
^^ Very entertaining game. Ohio State started slow, then took the lead and seemed like they'd win it, but UConn made a run at the end to close the gap and Ohio State ran cold missing a series of shots. But their defense was great and they started making their shots again to close it out.
