by jazzyg Alcaraz, who has found his form on clay, ran through De Minaur in straight sets today.

The whole idea about the men having developed parity is nonsense to me. Alcaraz and Sinner split the four slams last year. Sinner had a truly dominant year--right up there with some of the Big 3's best--which hurts me to say since I once absurdly posted he was Berdych 2.0.

Alcaraz is 21. Nadal's consistency at that age is making people worry about Alcaraz, but his path is more normal, even for the all-time greats. Depending on how Sinner comes back, and the way he handled the negativity at the U.S. Open last year, I predict he won't be affected, it's hard to see any player interrupting the duo's run in slams this year.

ATP parity started and ended with the Sunshine Double.

by ponchi101 Parity does not mean that just two players are dominant.
Parity may mean that below those two players, everybody else is very even. For example: if you had to bet right now on a Tsitsipas/Rublev match, what would be your split? Rune/Ruud? Are you surprised when, for example, Francisco Cerundolo beats Zverev, clearly ranked much higher?
If Alcaraz does not win Barcelona, will you be shocked? Yes, he is the favorite, but not as prohibitively as Nadal was in the past.

And: if somebody other than Carlos or Jannik wins RG, will you be in absolute surprise?

by ashkor87 that Alcaraz-DeMinaur match at Barcelona was one of the best clay court matches I have seen (highlights only of course).. DeMinaur continues to impress, on a surface that should not really suit him.

You make good points, but yes, I would be very surpised if Carlos or Jannik does not win Roland Garros.

by ashkor87 RG - Djokovic always has a chance, best of 5 sets and all.. I would say Alcaraz 50%, Sinner 30%, Djokovic 20%

by ponchi101 A "back to normal" week. Alcaraz and Zverev in the final, against seeded opponents.
I give Rune a chance, Shelton much less.

by Owendonovan Feels a bit of a fluke for Ben on clay. Zverev has been less than his ranking suggests, so who knows.

by Suliso Alcaraz losing at home on clay a bit of a surprise.

by jazzyg I have always thought Rune was the most talented player among the outsiders. He just has to get out of his own way mentally, which he did here, crushing Ruud and Kchachanov on his way to the final.

If he keeps it together--a huge if--he has the game to challenge anyone on any surface, no matter how well they are playing.

by mick1303 The way Rune disguises the direction on his FH is quite outstanding.

by ponchi101 We will have to keep in mind that Alcaraz took that MTO, and after that, his movement was not the same. But this was a case of not being able to keep up the pace with Carlos.
The ATP needs the third great, young player, and Rune can be the villain in the group. If he can start winning more consistently, we may have a new top group.
