by dave g I fear that I have boxed myself with my early pick of Pliskova. Thankfully, I am not red yet, but I might be a medium shade of pink.

by ponchi101 Same here. She looks good vs Samsonova, although if she loses it will not be a surprise.
The picks for tomorrow, as far I can tell, are limited to: Keys/Volubic, Badosa/Muchova and NO PICK, which makes you go to sleep in peace, knowing there will be no drama tomorrow (and the rest of the week).

by Improbabledream You would probably have to be the professional sports gambler who dominated jeopardy for months to pick between Badosa and Muchova with any confidence. Yikes.

by ponchi101 I should have said, the picks that will not lock you in (I believe). Pick Barty and it is too early; she should make the semis.
Pick Iga and the same. I am picking Muchova, but this is the pick I know can be suicidal. 50% I will make it.

by Suliso I think Iga goes down to Jabeur.

by dave g My pick is base on my assumption that Iga goes down to Sabalenka. We will find out.

by ponchi101 I am thinking she is the one that makes it out of the bottom half, although in the Wimby topic I am saying Jabeur or Keys, I know. But those two have a little bit of wishful thinking from my side.

I think you are safe.. Pliskova is not going to win..she will stand there and watch the ball go by, mostly - though she looks good doing that, I grant

Thing is, with this easier schedule of all round 4 and QF matches on 1 day instead of split over 2, you can select a semi finalist today without it being a sure-fire suicide later on. (Assuming she loses in the SF and not one of your previous picks makes it as well.)

That said, given the draw, picking Barty tomorrow instead of today (if she wins) looks more enticing.

But given the way it played out at RG, any pick could be too early. :D

Indeed. I pity the fools that picked Jabeur on day one... ;)

by ponchi101 I had 95% confidence in my Rublev pick today. And 1% confidence in my Muchova pick.
And I am alive here, dead in the other. This game is insane.

Same thing for me, I had 100 % confidence in my Rublev pick and 10% on my Muchova pick

by ponchi101 And slowly, today is being another small decimation. Iga is out, Keys is out, and Coco is in unsafe waters.

by bestjax Wow, double checked on Day 7 with Rublev and Keys. Crazy, did not see that coming. Both don't exactly have a B game, so that was a risk.
Going to cheer on my Skan team now.

by JTContinental Down to 21 after 1 No Pick

The Breakdown

Karolina Muchova 10
Madison Keys 5
Iga Swiatek 2
Karolina Pliskova 2
Aryna Sabalenka 1
Coco Gauff 1

by Togtdyalttai I'm going into tomorrow with 7 players to choose from, and I kind of wish I had less of a choice.

by ponchi101 I'll trade you. You want my Jabeur pick? That thing is going to blow up in my face badly.

by JTContinental I will post Day 8 picks once this final women's match has concluded

Yes!! At least she won!

by ashkor87 the courts are playing quite slow.. it would be wise not to discount hard court and even clay court results..

by ashkor87 My day 8 pick, Kerber, is based on the assumption that Barty will beat her in the semis and go on to win the title.. we shall see..!

(I wish you the best of luck, but only today ;) )

by JTContinental The Breakdown for Day 8

Karolina Pliskova 7
Ashleigh Barty 3
Angelique Kerber 2

by JTContinental Everyone progresses today--take a day off tomorrow!

by JTContinental While you are taking your day off, two of you will be contemplating why you already picked 3 out of the 4 semifinalists

Because we didn’t expect Pliskova and Kerber to make it this far LOL

by ashkor87 now I have to choose between Pliskova and Sabalenka, neither of whom I like in these conditions.. but the conditions are slower than usual, so maybe I had better like one of them, but which one?!

by JTContinental My spidey sense says Sabalenka is going to take a lot of people out tomorrow--I feel she's either going to crash out to the lead balloon that is Karolina Pliskova or win the whole thing.

by ponchi101 My path is Kerber --> Sabalenka, or the reverse. So Sabalenka either kings me or kills me.

by ashkor87 somehow, I just cant see Pliskova winning a major - if she was capable of it, she would have done it by now..too difficult now..

If she were to win one, Wimbledon would be her best chance given her powerful serve and flat groundstrokes. Her biggest issue is movement. Her opponents know this and they often make her run around and many times, she just gives up and doesn't even go after the ball. I'm surprised that she has not been working on this.

but grass is where movement is the most critical...

by ponchi101 Chance for a winner today. If Sabalenka loses, there is one picker each for the Kerber/Barty match.

by ponchi101 So Chad can be the winner today. Something tells me s/he is rooting for Pliskova right now. Just a little bit ;)

Feels like this next match is on Sabalenka's racquet. I'm rooting for a Barty v Sabalenka final to see more of their highly entertaining 2021 rivalry.

If Pliskova wins, I'll have the happy consolation of winning the SP. Thought I was a goner when the semis were set and Barty was the only one of the four I hadn't chosen in a prior round. Probably still a goner :D

He/him, the same Chad from our NFL fantasy football league who crushes the regular season but come the playoffs I've had the luck of Felix in a final thus far. Though I fully expect Felix and I both to break through and start rewriting the record books in our favor sooner rather than later.

Hope springs eternal! :bananas:

by ponchi101 And, I will let JT make this official because he runs this contest, but I believe we have a winner
He will be announced promptly, but CONGRATS!!!!

by JTContinental And I was right! Sabalenka decimates the field today leaving one person standing! I"ll double check, but I think Chad is out of picks for the final, so this marks the end of the pool for this year

by ashkor87 very thrilled to have made it almost to the end.. Sabalenka let me down, which I fully expected her to, anyway.. that was fun..

by ashkor87 i should have picked Barty.. it would have left me empty on finals day but I should have remembered the aim is not to last till the end, it is to last longer than the others! (reminds of the hikers/grizzly bear story).. oh well.

wish she had decimated her opponent instead, the way she decimated us!! ;)
