On Xitter earlier they were raging about the shooter being a trans school administrator. Others chimed in to say they understood why a school administrator would "snap". Both camps accepted that the administrator took their own life.

Disgraceful what the paid for blue check people have done to that site.

I never click on any twitter links now. Like most social media, spend a couple days off it and you'll find you don't miss it. Twitter falls in the category of problem, not solution.

Kentucky Republican State Representative Nick Wilson—best known for winning the 37th season of Survivor in 2018 before running for office—was widely criticized for introducing and subsequently withdrawing a bill that sought to remove the criminal liability for incest involving first cousins.

House Bill 269, introduced on January 16, aimed to amend Kentucky's incest laws by striking "first cousin" from the list of familial relationships considered unlawful. The proposed amendment raised eyebrows, leading to widespread criticism and concerns about the potential implications of such a change.

Wilson claimed that the inclusion of first cousins in the bill was a drafting error and has since refiled the legislation.

In a Facebook post, Wilson emphasized that the primary intention of the legislation was to extend legal protection against incest by adding "sexual contact" to the existing statute, addressing gaps in the law related to sexual touching and groping within familial relationships.

He wrote:

"The purpose of the bill is to add 'sexual contact' to the incest statute. Currently, incest only applies in cases of intercourse. So sexual touching/groping by uncles, stepdads or anyone with a familial relationship is not included in incest. My bill makes that kind of sexual contact a Class D Felony, unless the victim is under the age of 12, then it increases the penalty to a Class C Felony."
"During the drafting process, there was an inadvertent change, which struck 'first cousins' from the list of relationships included under the incest statute, and I failed to add it back in. During today’s session, I will withdraw HB 269 and refile a bill with the “first cousin” language intact."
"The fact that I was able to file a bill, catch the mistake, withdraw the bill and refile within a 24 hour period shows that we have a good system."
He concluded:

"This is a bill to combat a problem of familial and cyclical abuse that transcends generations of Kentuckians. I understand that I made a mistake, but I sincerely hope my mistake doesn’t hurt the chances of the corrected version of the bill."
"It is a good bill, and I hope it will get a second chance."

In Kentucky, incest is presently characterized by engaging in sexual relations with a person recognized as a parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, great-grandparent, great-grandchild, uncle, aunt, nephew, niece, brother, sister, first cousin, ancestor, or descendant. Wilson's initial proposed amendment aimed to eliminate "first cousin" from this list.

Furthermore, both the original and revised editions of the bill tackled the issue of parole for violent offenders, encompassing individuals convicted of incest through sexual contact within the defined parameters.

Additionally, Wilson takes a leading role as the primary sponsor in three other bills currently under consideration.

House Bill 182, aiming to broaden the definition of a "violent offender"; House Bill 270, seeking to criminalize traveling to Kentucky for the purpose of engaging in rape or sodomy; and House Bill 271, proposing the allowance of written reports concerning child dependency, neglect, or abuse.

Lawmaker JJ Humphrey seeks punishments for ‘acts of terrorism’ and defines terrorist as ‘any person who is of Hispanic descent’

An Oklahoma lawmaker is facing backlash for proposing a discriminatory bill that deems people of Hispanic descent as “terrorists”.

The Republican state representative JJ Humphrey introduced the bill, HB 3133, which seeks to combat problems in the state, such as drug and human trafficking, and lay out punishments to those who have committed these “acts of terrorism”.

The punishment for such a crime would be forfeiting all assets, including any and all property, vehicles and money.

In addition to “a member of a criminal street gang” and someone who “has been convicted of a gang-related offense”, the bill defines a terrorist as “any person who is of Hispanic descent living within the state of Oklahoma”.

The move was met with fierce criticism.

State senator Michael Brooks, who serves as the senate’s minority caucus vice-chair and founded the Oklahoma Latino legislative caucus, said the move by Humphrey was unsurprising.

“To have the law treat people differently based on their race or ethnicity only creates greater divides,” Brooks said. “The bill is fatally flawed, and I don’t know if there’s much of a way to be able to change it.”

Humphrey apologized but then doubled down.

He said: “I apologize for using the word Hispanic, but I was not wrong. Again, these are Hispanic. Reality is they are Hispanic. There’s nothing to be ashamed with.”

Humphrey said he will go back to the bill and amend the language from “Hispanic” to “undocumented here illegally, or something like that”.

If passed in the Republican-controlled legislature, the bill would become law and take effect on 1 November.

Humphrey did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

So if Texas were to secede:

Look if they secede they'll become a foreign country. Visa's and passports will be needed to travel to the United States. There will be no Federal aid going to the new country of Texas. No welfare, medicaid, Medicare, social security benefits, Obamacare, nothing of the sort. They will have to pay for clean ups after major weather events - cold, hurricanes, etc.

That's why I say let 'em go. More Federal money will go to the remaining states for projects that are being short changed now.

Texas is one of the states that is self supporting, so the economic consequences can be accepted. They can have their own social security network, but of course they do not believe in social security.
They would lose NASA and stuff like that.
The oil companies will remain, so no issues there.
Visa's and stuff like that are negotiable. The UK left the Euro zone and they were not slapped with visas to enter.
The NBA, NFL and MLB will sort it out in minutes. Too much money involved.

Update on KC Chiefs parade rally shooting from Children’s Mercy: 12 patients treated, 11 of them children. Nine children had gunshot wounds, ages range from 6 yo to 15 yo, and all are expected to make a full recovery.

Groups of men, who appeared to be strangers, exchanged angry words and threats. A female friend tried to intervene. And then, surrounded by thousands of people at a rally last week celebrating Kansas City’s Super Bowl victory, at least two men pulled out their guns and began shooting.

“Just being stupid,” one of the men, Lyndell Mays, 23, told detectives later, according to the authorities, after admitting to firing his gun at least once or twice into the crowd.

Mr. Mays and another Missouri man, Dominic Miller, 18, were charged with murder for the death of a bystander, prosecutors announced on Tuesday. Ballistics tests revealed that a bullet from Mr. Miller’s gun killed Elizabeth Galvan, 43, a D.J. and radio host known as Lisa, who was at the parade on Wednesday with her family, prosecutors said.

One dumb moment of thinking you are a cowboy and you not only kill somebody, you ruin your life too.
Uhm, yes, it happens outside the USA too. A lot of violence in Colombia is precisely because of that. Two assholes in a bar (usually in small town, where people carry guns) start arguing about which football team is better, some moonshine has been consumed, they get into a gun fight.
