Mertens has looked shaky all year, and came in 0-2 on grass this year

I took her in the first round, and she squeaked by. Osorio ran her all over.

And of course loses serve from 40-15. I'm through with Juvan, though.

And Mertens takes the TB and set 3 will be played tomorrow. At least we have one more night!

Which, if you are riding Mertens, could actually be a GOOD thing.
You know, your health and other mental stuff... ;)

Greetings, losers! At long last TMQ has navigated the tumultuous waters of this week and pushed his way through the rain to land on the shores of Wimbledon. It's time for a Round 1 roundup of DANK or STANK picks, and boy have y'all been racking up the bodies. Including no picks, we lost 101 out of 184 players in just the first round of play. We have no less than 18 (!!!) separate losing choices that I have to write something snarky about--a daunting task, but let's give it a go. Onward to the body pile!

Katerina Siniakova (20 victims) DANK Siniakova's untamed locks sometimes reminds TMQ of a cartoon woman who has been electrocuted, and she certainly provided us with the tournament's first big shocker, knocking out the bandwagon almost as soon as the tournament began. DANKing points awarded: 0

Danka Kovinic (12 victims) DANK She's got DANK in her name and in her game, but pulling out just before your match is about to start with an injury you probably already knew would keep you out of the tournament is a STANK move. Also, this was TMQ's pick, so as usual I am correct and it is Kovinic who is wrong. DANKing points awarded: 0

Only...16...more

Kaia Kanepi (11 victims) STANK Kanepi made the QFs here a million years ago, but has only won two matches here since then. She also only plays well when she's the underdog. Pool veterans should have learned from the French Open to pick against Parry at your parril. DANKing points awarded: 0

Camila Giorgi (8 victims) STANK A pick for Giorgi is always STANK because of her passionless style of play. She is a tennis robot that can be fun to watch when working correctly, but mostly just malfunctions and sputters. DANKing points awarded: 0

Rebecca Marino (6 victims) DANK TMQ doesn't know who Katarzyna Kawa is, but this was a tough loss for Marino, who had match point on her own serve and collapsed. A decent pick that didn't pan out so nothing to snark about here. DANKing points awarded: 0

Garbine Muguruza (6 victims) STANK At this point in time, if you are still picking Muguruza in the SP to win matches you either are a masochist or haven't watched her play for like 3 years. DANKing points awarded: 0

12...to.go...

Shelby Rogers (6 victims) STANK If you had consulted with TMQ (and you did not), I would have told you to actually pick Martic in this match, as she is the better player and is almost always a good pick for the first couple of rounds of an SP. DANKing points awarded: 0

Serena Williams (5 victims) STANK I know it was tempting given the opponent, but it was never going to happen--a wasted pick disguised in an appealing package with a fancy bow. DANKing points awarded: 0

Dayana Yastremska (5 victims) STANK If Yastremska isn't winning her match right away, she often just checks out. TMQ didn't watch this match to see if that was the case, but the scoreline checks out enough for me not to care to uncover anything that would disprove my astute observation. At least she didn't retire down 0-5 and match point with a fake injury. DANKing points awarded: 0

9...left

Tamara Zidansek (5 victims) DANK This should have been a win for someone who was seeded as recently as the 2022 French Open but Udvardy has foiled a number of players in SPs this year, and is poised to take out half of the remaining players in her holdover match against Mertens. DANKing points awarded: 0

Danielle Collins (3 victims) STANK Collins is more of a hardcourt player and Bouzkova is talented enough that TMQ would have moved on to less perilous areas of the draw. DANKing points awarded: 0

Martina Trevisan (3 victims) STANK TMQ is putting a little extra STANK on this one, because not only is Trevisan just a clay court specialist, she's really just a French Open specialist and should never be picked for any other tournament ever. DANKing points awarded: 0

Beatriz Haddad Maia (2 victims) STANK Had you consulted TMQ (and again you did not), I would have advised you that Haddad Maia was the ideal candidate as the average player who does well during a season but peaks too early and then flames out in the first round (I even vocalized this in one of the threads, proving once again that I am never wrong). DANKing points awarded: 0

God...I've...lost...count

Yulia Putintseva (1 victim) STANK Either one of these players was a bad choice, so this match should have been avoided. Both of these players kind of suck on grass, but Putintseva sucks more. DANKing points awarded: 0

Arantx Rus (1 victim) STANK Rus has only made it past the first round once in the last 39 grand slams that have been held, but sure... DANKing points awarded: 0

Nastasje Schunk (1 victim) STANK "Schunk" is the sound this body made when it hit the killing floor. The person who made this pick is certainly a gambler, but not a very good one. We are so close to the end of this that TMQ can't bother to even Google this person to find any pertinent or humorous information about her. DANKing points awarded: 0

And...we'll..finish with...

Sloane Stephens (1 victim) STANK TMQ does not need to explain this; you know what you have done. DANKing points awarded: 0

WE MADE IT! Round 2 promises to be just as exciting as most of you are teetering on the edge of the bandwagon with your hopes pinned solely on Elise Mertens. This was probably a sleepless night for you.
