Poland squeaked through, though Swiatek was her usual dominant self in the third set...

Poland meets Czechia next..Czechs have a good chance, their #2 player, Bouzkova, is better than Poland's, and Siniakova is the greatest doubles player of the generation...

Motivation matters a lot here..The czechs are always highly charged .. remember the way Safarova used to beat everyone! The Poles too, I imagine .my son just came back from doing a concert tour of Poland, he says Swiatek has almost god-like status in Poland, her face on billboards etc...cant imagine any American player being that big in America .not even the greatest of them, Serena...no wonder the US regularly loses to smaller countries....

I went to the Polish market near me the other day and she was on a bottle of vitamin water.
I would post the picture but can't get it small enough lol

Re: '22 BJK Cup 11/8 - 11/13
I am a bit puzzled ..when the top singles players show up to play doubles, with no practice, they can still steamroll the best doubles specialists..Siniakova wasn't able to do much, and she is #1 in the world in doubles...Nadal used to show up to play doubles, with Marco Lopez, and the top doubles teams in the world couldn't do much. Are these doubles specialists over-rated?

Siniakova seems to have played badly - often uncertain which way to go, which is unlike her.. maybe overwhelmed by the presence of Swiatek, lack of practice playing with Bouzkova so uncertain what her partner will do? and great play by Kawa.. she really took the lead and seized the match ..

The best players in the world play singles, and doubles is a fall back for those who can't play singles.ashkor87 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:27 am I am a bit puzzled ..when the top singles players show up to play doubles, with no practice, they can still steamroll the best doubles specialists..Siniakova wasn't able to do much, and she is #1 in the world in doubles...Nadal used to show up to play doubles, with Marco Lopez, and the top doubles teams in the world couldn't do much. Venus and Serena played doubles pretty much only at majors and took home 14 grand slam titles

Federer and Wawrinka took home a gold medal in doubles. Played together even less than Serena and Venus.

Having said that not all singles players are formidable at doubles too. Swiatek had been to GS final in doubles (2021 RG).
