Swiatek through.
I have this idea. In a sense, slams for women are easier than regular tournaments; you don't move to best of 5, and you get a day off between matches. Plus, if you are seeded, you are guaranteed at least two rounds of unseeded players.
So Iga may have a bit more time to work on some stuff, and the fact that she gets the day off allows her to work on things that are bothering her.
I think Rybakina has a good chance, but I say Osta may be looking at her first lost against Iga, because it is RG and Iga will be really rested. And at home.

Tommy Paul through, but I don't see him moving beyond this round with a nagging ab injury.

If Swiatek beats Ostapenko here it is quite possible that she'll never lose to her again. Like prime Federer took extra pleasure in repeated stomping of Nalbandian and Hewitt.

BTW, it will a first time in Open Era when two Brits (male players) play each other in the 3rd round (or later) in Roland Garros. Never happened before ))

I can remove the qualification about male players. British ladies did fare only marginally better. They played each other only in R128 here as well. But it happened 5 times (last time in the 80s) vs a single time John Lloyd played Colin Dowdeswell in 1984.

Rybakina is going to beat Swiatek unless Swiatek ups her game significantly.

She's certainly capable of doing just that, but I have not seen any evidence it will happen.

Beating Ostapenko maybe does not tell all that much about current Rybakina form. To me she looked quite far from her best even in all her recent wins. A lot of sloppiness.

I agree. But Rybakina is 2-0 against Swiatek on clay and 4-4 overall. This is more about Swiatek than Rybakina.

I hope you will be right. But Rybakina's form has dropped even more than Iga's.
And the little I saw of the Osta/Rybakina match, Ostapenko was even wilder than usual. Meaning, here DF's came in triples, her shots landing out by 2 meters were by the dozen. So, very little to say there about Elena's form.

Rybakina just won a tournament right before RG with a couple of decent wins.

Swiatek has not even played in a final since winning RG last year, when she was lucky to make the second week after being down match points to Osaka.

Earlier this year, Rybakina definitely was in really bad form--Swiatek beat her twice in a row--but her game appears to be in better shape now and Swiatek has gotten worse. We shall see.

yes, very true. I would prefer to see men moving to best of 3 too, until the QFs or something..they are getting injured too often..

Fonseca really got a lesson from Draper.. he still has some learning to do, but hopefully he will do it.
