That man ruled uptown Manhattan for such a long time and there was a lot of good (he had a Purple Heart medal) and as much corruption as one would expect with someone in power that long.

I once spent two days in the studio with the Beach Boys. At one point, Brian Wilson was in the control room talking about why the group's records sounded the way they did. Because he was deaf in his right ear, he explained, he was trying to create the illusion of stereo for one ear.

One thing Sly Stone and Brian Wilson had in common was their focus on *arrangement*. They analyzed every part every instrument played in a song.
When Sly produced the original version of “Somebody to Love,” he sat down at every instrument, one by one, to guide the Great Society through playing it.
The Beach Boys leader was one of pop music’s most acclaimed visionaries, whose creative success was tempered by personal battles.

Re: In Memoriam
Got to see The Beach Boys live at a free concert in Coney Island maybe 12 years ago, they'd done a few of them in the recent years. Was a great show.
I feel like Brian Wilson gets overlooked a bit sometimes as a musical genius because he continued creating mostly pop music in the age when mostly rock music was considered cool.
Wilson was open about his mental health and neural conditions, pretty amazing he lived to this age, continued performing until a couple years ago, and got to see his musical legacy.

Brian Wilson, Pop Auteur and Leader of the Beach Boys, Dies at 82
A hitmaker elevated and burdened by the label of genius, he transcended the breezy surf genre to create complex harmonies and intricate soundscapes in the studio.
