19 players remain, and despite TMQ's very prescient warning, most have chosen to glibly jump on the bandwagon that has repeatedly malfunctioned during the first 4 days. Let's see what happens!

Elina Svitolina 10
Linda Noskova 4
Amanda Anisimova 3
Cristina Bucsa 1
Madison Keys 1

Elina has become dependable. And she always was, meaning, she would take care of the players she had to take care of.

Well...there went the bandwagon...as warned!

But honestly, given that set of matches, I probably would pick Svitolina again. Combo of saving some players for next round and some other matches being toss-ups. Oh well!

4th day in a row of a bandwagon crash--this has got to be some type of record.

It was the right match to pick from, just the wrong player.

Picking Mertens is never the right decision in a SP :)

If Mertens plays like she did today--a big if--she will beat Sabalenka. I was in attendance, and she easily could have won 6-1, 6-3. She had everything working.

Funny thing about SP is, it gets easier, not harder, in later rounds..players are settled in, we know how the courts are behaving .it s really the first few days that blow us away (me too)

Just 7 remain for day 6 with just one final hurdle to surmount before an invitation to the coveted UPDATED Picks & Results thread. Conventional wisdom says the 4 Alexandrova pickers might as well just make their final arrangements now.

The breakdown

Ekaterina Alexandrova 4
Dayana Yastremska 2
Liudmila Samsonova 1

TMQ will close this thread out tomorrow with an R32 wrap up!

Has it ever happened that updated thread was not made because everyone was dead already?

That I don't remember happening (in the slams at least, not that IW and Miami get updated threads anyway!)

Let's close out this thread for plebians in style! Did your Round 3 losing pick earn a LAVISH LAWN like Kensington Park on a sunny day or SALIVA-ISH YAWN like the Jack the Ripper tour? Let's find out.

LAVISH LAWN

Elina Svitolina (10 victims) This bandwagon was the "safe" pick, but Mertens plays the dream killer for the second slam in a row, only this time by winning. Damn her.

Madison Keys (1 victim) Keys is a player who has always underperformed at Wimbledon. Despite her success at the Australian Open, she still can throw in a clunker of a match like she did against Siegemund. Siegemund and her barking and junk tennis is easily the most obnoxious woman on the tour and Madison flusters easily, which was a bad combination.

SALIVA-ISH YAWN

Dayana Yastremska (2 victims) The second most obnoxious player on the tour has been living on borrowed time since her first round upset of Gauff. When she's on she is very dangerous as she showed, she just isn't on very often. Her on court demeanor is reminiscent of a blonde pony-tailed toddler with a full diaper (that might explain the grunting), which is probably not great for her form. I'm surprised she didn't retire when she fell behind in the third set, which is her go to move.

Cristina Bucsa (1 victim) TMQ must note here that the Bucsa picker expressed concern that they were overthinking, and then proceeded to choose from the most difficult matchup on the docket. TMQ must again note that you did indeed overthink. But at least you didn't pick Svitolina! Your prize is the award of worst pick of Round 3.

That's a wrap! You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here. TMQ has issued his 5 golden tickets to the inner sanctum, and the rest of you are relegated to the sidelines, spectating on how the other half lives. See you there!
