What accounts for this awesome play by Kudermetova? She even half-smiled at the end of the Linette match.
Her serve was always good but I thought her defense would notice stand up on fast courts...

Shelton vs Zverev. I think Shelton will win and establish himself as #3 player. Not yet in rankings, but very soon that too.

Agree. He's got the fire, and he seems to be improving. Zverev and Fritz seem to have reached their peaks (or, in Fritz's case, only very slight, minuscule improvements). Draper doesn't seem to have the mental and physical consistency to maintain his ranking.

Agree.
And agree. Shelton will move further up. He is one or two tweaks to his game from becoming a top player and take a set from J/C in their matches.
---0---
Atmane continues the recent tradition of players coming out of nowhere and having really good tournaments. Last year, Popyrin took Montreal. This year, Eala had that really good run at Miami, Sierra had that run at Wimby, Mboko won Montreal, and now Atmane has been playing majestic tennis.
Unless you are a top 3 player (top 2 in the ATP), nobody is scared of you. Nobody.
And, BTW. Atmane has weapons. Only a matter of time to see if he can tame them on a routine basis.

Sabalenka not playing well recently. This loss might have some implications for year end #1 if Swiatek stays steady. Aryna really needs to win USO now.

I know. That is the reason I am not declaring him the second coming of Mats Wilander. Heck, I will not even declare him the second coming of Laconte until he can reach 3R with consistency.
I would put some money that he will not survive the qualies at the USO.

Nonetheless now Fonseca's loss looks much less worrying.

She won't win the USO. The errors count is exorbitant. Her motto after the RG loss was "hit harder". No matter the consequences.
