Where do Carlos and Jannik end?
Ok.
Too early. I know.
And too much can happen.
But they are very young and there seems to be nobody else out there that can even come close to what they do.
So where to they end, in the GS count?
I give Carlos 50% chance of reaching Novak.
I give Jannick 75% chance of passing Pete.

Sinner is talking about making changes in his game so the next year should be interesting for both men. Carlos is playing Grand Slam tennis when he has to but I don't think he's going to stop tweaking his game either.
The two of them may stop each other from reaching or exceeding 20 slams.
It would be fun to be wrong.

Re: Where do Carlos and Jannik end?
after the French, I thought the race was all over - nobody was going to beat Alcaraz. Sinner did it at W but I think it wont happen again too often.. Alcaraz has an extra level even Sinner cant reach yet.. the only change Sinner can make that would help is to improve his first serve percentage.. can he ? yes.. it is a simple technical change. Overall, I think Alcaraz wont be caught again, for a while..

Carlitos is a bit injury prone.
My "problem" is that I really don't see anybody to challenge them. I was hoping Fonseca and Mensik would mature a bit more this year, but their early exits at favorable slams does not bode well. Still, they are young.
I say Sinner passes Pete, will not reach Roger.
Carlos gets to 20. Those extra 4, I am not sure.

Re: Where do Carlos and Jannik end?
Honestly, I can see the 2 of them splitting majors like this year, 2-2, the next 5 years. They currently combined have 10, 6-4 Alcaraz; split the next 5 years puts them at 16-14. That's getting them pretty close to 20 each and they would only be ages 27 and 29?
Now...how long will they be motivated and how long will they stay healthy and be uninjured?
But right now...Djokovic can beat everyone else in a major except those 2. Zverev...he's been close but it feels like he peaked and it won't happen (it could, but it feels like it won't). Fritz...doesn't quite have enough either. Are there some guys that could play a crazy crazy match and knock off one of them in a tourney? Sure. Knock off both of them? Rough.
Maybe Shelton and Draper can eek one out somewhere?
Younger guys...maybe? but most of them still have a lot of work to do. Commentators keep talking about Fonseca but he's still a ways out imo.
So again...motivation and injury may be the factors that decide it.
But I think there is a pretty fair chance both of them could get to 20 (and maybe more?). As the landscape looks right now anyway.

Re: Where do Carlos and Jannik end?
I think "they" need to lay off Fonseca and Mensik. Both men are still young (Fonseca is18 I think) and have some growing to do, both physically and mentally. I forget the age that men stop growing but I think it's in the early 20's.
The last thing tennis needs is another generation of headcases. Let them mature at their own rate not to meet someone else's expectations.
For the men the current Exhibit A is Holger Rune.
For the women I think it's Mirra Andreeva.

Re: Where do Carlos and Jannik end?
They rule the roost now, but at nowhere near the level of Rafa, Federer, or Novak. And winning that many slams on the men's side was an impossible feat until those 3 did it.

Re: Where do Carlos and Jannik end?
Using the tier narrative, they are at level 1. Novak is still at tier 2. And tier 3 is at a level that is below the tier 3 of recent years. We don't have a Delpo, a Cilic, Stan, Berdych, Tsonga or Ferrer. That is the reason we see so many "upsets".
Zverev maybe being an exception.

Re: Where do Carlos and Jannik end?
winning slams is not the only measure - my eyes tell me Sinner and Alcaraz are as good as the big 3. If we are going to count slams like accountants, we will have to wait till they all retire.. what good is that?

Re: Where do Carlos and Jannik end?
That is the reason I am asking.
For example, the accountants have it easy with R/R/N. It is Novak. By almost all metrics, he has the other two beaten.
Right now, Carlos is a Becker/Edberg. Six slams, has reached #1, multiple other tournaments. That is what the accounting says.
But he is far from retirement, so ergo the question.
You say he is the greatest you have ever seen. I say... I remember Roger during those years of invincibility. The speed, the power, the deftness of hands.
And I remember Pete when grass was not the slow version of today. Pete, on a really fast court, was awesome.
And I remember Borg with that tiny 68 sq in racquet that weighted 16 ounces. How fast he could move on the court.
